high five!

You guys are really lucky to have friends getting into such nice schools. I’m sure you all will have similar luck w/ Chicago!
& decisions will come out on the 18th but like someone said, they’re probably changing a few things for last minute withdrawals. My friend applied to Chicago EA. Me and her are the only ones from my school that applied, but she doesn’t even want to go anymore…“too cold”… I was so close to telling her to withdraw her application!

@carter i get way too territorial over other people applying to UC. personally knowing them makes the anxiety worse because you intimately know who they are as a person, what their stats are, etc.

i read on a really old article that UC ranks applications, and they basically pick from the top as more spots open up. this was c. 2000, so it might not be applicable anymore, but it certainly is an interesting idea. it makes every app withdrawal due to ED that much more exciting!

@carter i’m the only one applying ea in my school, one guy’s doing rd but idk him that well

Lol Ill be really disappointed if I get rejected due to the fact that it seems as UChicago attracts really cool, smart people. “weak” applicant right here lol

@great you prob aren’t as weak as you think, anyway, there’s no use speculating now

One of my close friends applied EA to Chicago. It’s her top choice as well, and I’m almost certain she’ll get in. I feel territorial about people I know applying, as well. I love my friend, but I’m definitely worried that I’ll get deferred/rejected while she gets accepted.

No one at my school applied :), more luck for much.

Omar, is that a plus that you’re the only person from your school to apply? I think I might be the first ever from mine lol.

I want to say that there are fix or six people from my school who applied EA. Granted, only like 3 of us have a legitimate chance, so the three of us have been freaking out together.

And no one has gotten in from my school for like 2 years, so I’m hoping that this year is ripe for a lot of acceptances.

Only two people from my school applied, and the other girl is not that strong an applicant IMHO. But in as erratic a process as holistic admissions, you can’t really be sure of anything.

LOL according to naviance around 80 people from my school applied, so I have no way of knowing who all those individuals are… We’ll see! :)

80 people! That’s a lot of applicants.

I only know one other person who applied EA (or intended to at all) and she’s very strong but I don’t go to school with her or anything. I’d love it if either of us (of course, especially both of us) ended up there, as we both adore the school.

Random question @neontissues. I see you’re from MA-- cool stuff! The East coast is lovely (I’m sure I only say that so enthusiastically because I don’t live there, or so I’ve been told). Did you come all the way out here to visit UC?

Poor planning on my part, but if I don’t get in I’ll be scrambling to get some last minute applications out. I’ve sent a few safeties out, but I’m really waiting to hear back for UChicago before sending out my other ‘match’ schools. It’ll be a stressful few weeks if I don’t get in. Hoping for the best however.

ok, so idk if there are any disney fans here, but this is the song i think of every time i open the thread and talk to you wonderful people

@fireballs It’s all good, I’ve made hardly any headway at all on my RD apps! I just deleted 5 or 6 schools from my Common App today after I got into Georgetown and I reckon I’ll cross off a few more if U of C ends up working out. Otherwise, I’m screwed for winter break lol

I’ve filled out one application, for U Chicago.

If I get in, I’m done. If I don’t, then I have like three entire applications to fill out. It could either be a very easy, or very stressful few weeks.

@fangirl YESSSSS i begged my parents to let me go to chicago for spring break and they let me (after a lot of convincing – i had injured my knee the week before; looking back, it was a really bad idea to walk 6 miles a day with damaged cartilage in my knee). the city has so much character and i was disappointed that i could only spend 3 full days there. hopefully i will get to spend more time at UC/chicago in the future! (if all goes well…)

i’ve been in love with chicago for so long, and it was one of the few major cities i haven’t visited so yea, I CAME I SAW I WEPT I LEFT.

@ultra @fireballs - yea, haven’t written a single supplement since nov. 8 (it’s been wonderful), but thankfully i’m pretty quick at writing them. it would be so amazing to not have to write ANY over break…but we will leave that up to the uchicago gods to decide!

I think that my school has at least 10 people doing ea and I can’t decide if this is fortunate or not, but all of us are competitive applicants. Usually our school does send 10 peeps at least to UChicago so hopefully most of us make it!

I’ve done 7 apps so far, two more going to be submitted on thursday if I don’t make UChicago and 2 more will be submitted on saturday regardless. After that i’ll see if I wanna do more.
