@neontissues ooh, sounds wonderful! I hope you do get to explore the city more, UC or otherwise, there’s always something to see for sure. As a suburban kid all my life I haven’t even adequately explored as people who live around Chicago generally don’t spend nearly as much time there as one might think… I suppose it’s that way with most major cities though! As for the UC campus, I’ve only been there twice intentionally… it’s not enough… if I get in, I’m going to go again I am for sure exploring more and visiting classes or staying overnight or whatever I can!!

I’ve been accepted at two other “safety” schools, and I’m waiting to finish two applications until the decision… I like the other two schools (a LOT actually), but even so, they’re not nearly the same (which tells volumes of how much I loved UC…). So I may have some more writing to do. In case I got in, I couldn’t afford to expend the time/energy/money for the other two applications, in the mean time…

My interview for Reed is on Wednesday but if I get into Chicago, I may just cancel it last minute. It’d be pretty rude to waste his time.

Do you guys think that admission officers make an effort to accept a certain amount of people per region?

@Int95 yea…i think there were around 25 statuses today alone about college acceptances. it was CRAY-CRAY.

@fangirl it’s the same with me and Boston. i live in the suburbs, kind of close, but i only go there maybe once a year. i go to new york city and know manhattan more familiarly than i know boston (how sad). the UChicagoAdmissions tumblr page makes me soooo travelsick (that’s def a thing now) for UC. ungh. it’s like tom hiddleston withdrawals

@carter001 i feel like there is a certain level of consideration taken for geographic location. a diverse class wouldn’t be very diverse if it comprised primarily of people from CA, new england states, NY, NJ, etc. if i could find uchicago’s CDS, the importance it places on applicant’s location would be revealed to some extent i suppose

It gets me incredibly pumped for D-Day.

So I’m not necessarily competing with you guys…rather, I’m competing against the “cream of the crop” students in my state?

Me, too I bet there is around 10 people who applied ea in my state.

@neontissues NEW YORK CITY. I have travel lust or something to go there. I’ve only been when I was younger, so I don’t appreciate or remember it. The last time I went I was like 2 and I think it was for an Army vs. Navy college football game, so I don’t think I “saw the sights” ahaha.

Well as far as I know, UC does not have area quotas or anything like that, however, I’m sure they are conscience about making sure everyone isn’t from, for example, the Midwest. Also, the regional admissions counselors’ job is to know what school is like for students in certain regions and such, I imagine how their schools are ranked or what is realistically offered or something and how students took advantage of the opportunities etc… they had in their area. I’m not a 100% sure of what exactly they look at. So to an extent, @carter001, I’d imagine that you aren’t competing directly against the cream of the crop, necessarily, but that considerations would for sure be made knowing what your area and opportunities have probably been like and how other students used those. If that makes sense…

I think so…This obviously is a completely different school and so it doesn’t necessarily apply, but my counselor told me that Harvard accepted about 50% of the people who applied from my state, because there were only like 10 applicants total, so I think it definitely is at least part of the equation

you’re evaluated in the context of your situation. so no, you’re not expected to compete with kids w/ 20 AP classes, research opportunities with tenured professors, constant exposure to theatre/museums/art if you live in the middle of no where on a corn field in iowa (not dissing IA or anything).

@debater is that slaughtering of people at the end supposed to symbolize the slaughtering of our hearts on D day?

That was not the intention. I just like the song.

I left yesterday to do some homework and after a busy day at school and homework I decided to check back up here. I find 11 pages to read! With a lot of interesting philosophy talk, some breaking of the D, and of course more awesomeness in the thread! I’ve been feeling so scared while waiting for my D as I hear my friends all got into Stanford, Brown, MIT, and Harvard. I think I saw more likes on a status at a certain point than the amount of Facebook friends that I have! Crazy stuff…anyways, I couldn’t sleep last night thanks to D Day anxiety and am exhausted. I just wanted to drop by and say hi to you all. I have a presentation tomorrow about the history and philosophy behind the Hebrew alphabet so I got to go sleep. Have a goodnight, friends! Hopefully I’ll be more involved tomorrow! And congratulations to all those who have received acceptance letters! Wish you all the best (:

Good luck foot person! I get to do a presentation on prostate cancer tomorrow. I’m going to gross the class out with videos of an actual prostate surgery haha

CONGRATS ultra and neontissues!
I have NO acceptances yet. It’s startlingly disheartening. There was just one other UC applicant from my school, very competitive. Though I believe she got into Wharton ED so I hope she withdrew her application from UC already.
I’m an international student so I know my chances are much more slim than those for all of you. And it worries me that although my school is very highly ranked, it doesn’t give many opportunities. I’m hoping the high ranking doesn’t make the regional counselors think that I had a lot of opportunities that I didn’t make use of. In my school, whatever anybody does is through family connections (to get internships and stuff, otherwise there aren’t any internships available to high school students in my country, you get those only if you have connections) and unfortunately my family doesn’t have any So my application is quite unimpressive.
Still, I decided to dream big. I love UChicago and I know its the best fit for me. I just hope they think so too.
Plus, I applied for Financial Aid, so that plays against me too :(

We’re on the exact same boat, crazychic. I can empathize with you.

toomuchpressure #killingme #can’tsleep #can’t study

lol, when did we start talking about the dinosaur in the room?

@International95 sorry if this was mentioned somewhere earlier in the thread, but which country are you from?

@crazychic heyhey! By any chance you are from Singapore??? You are kind of giving of that vibe over the net ahah! :)

I am a citizen of the world <3

@DavidTaleb hahaha no But really, a Singaporean vibe? I wonder why! leans on elbows to contemplate, topples and falls
