UChicago EA Applicants 2019

oh I also uploaded my gollum video in the portfolio so that at least they would have some fun time during this long period of admission decision

can’t believe this is happening so soon.

if anyone else would like to exchange essays, drop me a message.

I think everyone here is awesome and I think we’re all competitive applicants. One thing we should remember is to not put our value as a person into whatever the decision comes out to be.

@JK0919‌ omg that is awesome hahaha

@kaynicholette‌ since I only have slight percentage of acceptance I was not afraid of anything. I was the first legit Asian gollum I think who did it perfectly. Remember the scene from the Hobbit? That’s what I acted in the play. Our director took a video of it and I uploaded it. hahahahahaha I am so brave

@JK0919‌ that is classic!! Honestly you’re right what do we have to lose. They’ll probably like it knowing UChicago. But that’s so great! And yeah I know the scene from the hobbit

Does anybody know when exactly the results will come out?

@kaynicholette‌ Well at least if it makes an impression on them then I am half successful!! At least they might not give me rejection right away! haha

@ProximaCentauri‌ No one knows the time. Not even UChicago lol. :slight_smile: From their tumblr: “Late afternoon means sometime between lunch and dinner and unfortunately we don’t have a set time we can provide beyond that— you’ll get an email when your decision is ready to be viewed in your account.”

can someone help me figure out something here? (if there is anything important at all…)
so i got UChicago’s email asking my intention for need-based financial last Wednesday (i am international), does it mean anything? i mean, since it’s NOT need-blind for international applicants, then it probably had made the decision to at least not reject me? otherwise why would they bother to even send me anything a week before the decision release?

@mahoushojo‌ I understand your hope and I am not perfeclty sure about it but it could be either positive or neutral sign. Yes, they are not need-blind but they require all the international applicants to apply for financial aid when they apply so that they would consider it after they give them admission (This is what I read as far. if it is wrong then someone should correct it). Therefore, it might mean something positive. But it could not be. Could you exactly tell me what the latter was like??

although we all should be realistic for wednesday, i think we should all be happy about it. despite the low chances of acceptance, it is an accomplishment that you all had the stats and courage to even be considered by such an amazing school. those are things to be proud of. regardless of results, all of you are smart and capable and will end up somewhere amazing.

just my opinion

@JK0919,

"Thank you for applying to the University of Chicago. According to our records, you have NOT applied for need-based financial aid. Please note that as a non-US citizen or non-US permanent resident, if you do not apply for financial aid before your admissions decision is finalized, you will not be eligible for any subsequent financial aid if you are admitted. We recommend that students do not rely on merit-based aid if they do not have the funds to afford their entire four years at UChicago.

If you and your family have the resources to pay the full cost of attending four years of college at the University of Chicago, and you will not need to apply for need-based aid, please disregard this message. NO ACTION IS REQUIRED!

If you DO wish to apply for need-based financial aid, you must notify us immediately via email at internationaladmissions@uchicago.edu so we can adjust your records accordingly. You will also need to complete the International Student Financial Aid Application (ISFAA) online through your UChicago Account by Monday, December 15th, following the instructions available at <a href="https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/costs/international-aid">https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/costs/international-aid</a>."</p>

it probably meant nothing major… i am overthinking. i guess i am just gonna spend my time finishing all Quentin Tarantino movies till Wednesday night…

Actually I think it could be a positive sign! I found this thread about similar case. Although one person got waitlisted after getting this kind of email but moslty they got accepted! I cannot say you are accepted but it could be seen somewhat positive it means that you are qualified if it is what they intend to give you a financial aid!
Can I know your sat score and other things if you do not mind? I feel like I would see you get accepted in wednesday!

@mahoushojo I would’ve gotten my hopes up too with that email. Maybe it is a good sign! But who knows, they could have just auto-sent an email to every international applicant that they didn’t have financial aid apps on record for. I feel like at this point, it’s best not to read into this stuff too much.

@JK0919, they are decent (in my opinion…)

1570/1600, UW GPA 3.9 ish…, W 4.4, several APs. creative essays (again in my opinion), decent ECs including some research…

then again, UChicago defers/rejects lots of kids with similar profiles… but it’s okay. i am mentally prepared for all three possibilities!

@alleycat2, i totally agree with u

Look, your things are wonderful! Be courageous and we will see what you will have with your decision. But I am pretty sure you will be accepted to any colleges in here! I envy you. haha : ))

@JK0919, nay there are so many kids who are way above my things in any aspect… i say we all just let things flow and see what happens on wednesday.

@mahoushojo‌ Just wondering, Can I ask your ethnicity?
