UChicago EA Applicants 2019

@marilo12 ME TOO! I shld have spent more time on my supplement.

I think one thing to understand is that a very large portion of UChicago applicants (or any very highly prestigious university) are not as creative and hard-working as the very thin slice of cake we see on these forums. If you’re here, you likely wrote some of the best essays that will go through the admissions office.

@mackeralwrath‌, @ForeverOne97‌ , yeah i am just sad that after the Tale of Kaguya they are not gonna make any more movies… :((

Did anyone else apply ED anywhere? I applied to Tufts ED and we don’t know until tomorrow. I’m basically on the verge of puking/a breakdown every second at this point

I applied ED To WashU and I was rejected. I will also be rejected at UChicago on the 17th, just like many of you will be too. I also plan on being rejected at Colorado College on December 18th for EA. I was accepted at Tulane but it will not be affordable. I don’t really like Tulane either, too party-ish and my friends won’t think I’m cool for getting accepted to Tulane since so many others do. I will only be accepted to schools that will not give me enough need-based financial aid, just so fate can spite me.

I am going to be rejected because my UW Gpa is 3.68, I did not take any honors classes freshman year (and i took 1 sophomore year). I took lots of APs Junior & Senior year. I also have an ACT score of 32 and 33 if you superscore it.

And my class rank is 21%ile.

Someone is a little discouraged…

@Ctesiphon‌ you honestly never know what’s going to happen. i’m sorry but i have the same act superscore as you and despite how discouraging it may be, it is still a score of which you should be proud. you have a good chance at these three schools. don’t let washu get you down. it is their loss. at the end of the day it is what place fits you best. not your friends. you will find a school that you love. you will look back on your washu decision and laugh. don’t worry

Sorry if this has already been answered, but what percentage of EA applicants do they defer?

@yellowboy I remember reading this a while back from some post UC made.

If you were to divide the EA pool into three groups (accepted, rejected, deferred), the largest would be deferred, BUT the combined number of accepted/rejected is larger than the number of those deferred. This means (technically) somewhere between 33% to 50% are deferred. My best guess though would be more around the 40% range.

P.S. Traditionally they accept around 10% of those deferred in RD

oh no. now i’m fearing rejection…

@mahoushojo I wrote the pH essay, and compared myself to a buffer too. Darn, I guess I wasn’t as original as I thought.

Just found some more info online, going to break this down a bit more:

Okay so last year (apparently) 11,143 applied and 1,350 of them were accepted (~12%). For the sake of easy math, I’ll assume 11,500 applied this year and lets say they accept 1400. So sticking with the 12% acceptance rate, accepted + rejected > deferred, and my GUESS that ~40% (lets say 45 for the sake of hoping) are deferred:

Accepted: 12% (1400)

Rejected: 43% (4945)

Deferred: 45% (5175)

I’m sure my estimates are off in one way or another, but hey, at least they aren’t as dismal as Stanford’s EA!!

@Localdreamer15 Thanks! That’s nice to know…

Also did anyone just freak out with that UChicago email? Haha for like two seconds I thought that they released decisions early :-S

i didn’t get an email ahh that makes me nervous

@marilo12‌ Same! What did it say @alleycat2‌ ?

Yea I got the email too, it’s talking about the opportunities and resources available to science students at UChicago.

I thought it was an early notification about my decision too lol

I got that too.

ya i also got the email and my heart skipped a beat ahah! But I love how they are still advertising to us when we have all already applied and practically would kill to go there.

i DIDN’T GET THE EMAIL detailing science and research opportunities at the University of Chicago.

DOES THIS MEAN IM REJECTED

@gymnastmd‌ right!! And on a Sunday too. They’re just trying to occupy our every thought until they release the decisions.
