UChicago EA Applicants 2019

Canadian applicant here :slight_smile: Just got deferred from Dartmouth While knowing that Chicago can be harder, still expecting good result. My stats aint that great tho, only 2150 sat

I’m reading my “Why Chicago” right now…ugh…its well written, but I can’t tell if I totally missed the mark:( I talked about why I liked UChicago but didn’t do anything deep or include anything “weird” I wanted to pursue there…it was all very general. :frowning: Hopefully they see through that.

@sjz1997‌ Dang. 1.8K students applied. Here 11K did. Man this is going to be toughhh.

@sofritachipotle‌ Oh my gosh. I am definitely going to be rejected. I don’t know how I even thought I had a chance of getting in. :(

@oplrus‌ ; Before the guy commented I thought the same thing… someone said before though like they did the calculations and 1K will get in… hold up let’s see…

@oplrus‌ ; So @Localdreamer15‌ did some math and said…

Okay so last year (apparently) 11,143 applied and 1,350 of them were accepted (~12%). For the sake of easy math, I’ll assume 11,500 applied this year and lets say they accept 1400. So sticking with the 12% acceptance rate, accepted + rejected > deferred, and my GUESS that ~40% (lets say 45 for the sake of hoping) are deferred:

Accepted: 12% (1400)

Rejected: 43% (4945)

Deferred: 45% (5175)

I’m sure my estimates are off in one way or another, but hey, at least they aren’t as dismal as Stanford’s EA!!

Now this is where it wasn’t taken into consideration for EA… Local Dreamer was looking at the actual yesses…

This data is two years ago, but pretty accurate…

Profile for the Class of 2017
Number of Applicants 30,304
Number Accepted 2,670
Number Enrolled 1,426

If we just consider the same this year, then basically, 2.6K will be accepted (51 spots already to QB people). Out of those, I’m expecting a 12% in early so about 300 people to be accepted through EA.

Hopefully not mixing up stuff. It’s 1AM. I’m half asleep. XD

Thats incorrect though because EA is not ED so 1k+ are still going to be accepted, not 300. Pretty sure 12% is the EA acceptance rate, not % of total accepted.

@weepingmermaid‌ ; I meant 300 in EA about? I don’t think 1K+ will be taken during EA O.o;;;

If that’s the case, dang I love UChic if they accept 1K in EA. Lol.

I’m not sure what you mean by taken in haha if you mean ea acceptance rate then its probably 1k+/11k+ because ea has yield rate of its own too. If you mean number of ea kids in the total enrollment number as compared to rd kids, then i’m not sure

I think I’m too sleepy to do math. XD good night.

hahahahaha know the feeling !! night :D

hahahahahaahahaha i just reread my answer to one of the short essay prompts. i totally screwed up a sentence that was supposed to have “impact.”

i cry :((

I forgot to apply for financial aid! Even if I get in now I can’t go.
Oh screw this… I’m just going to forget about UChicago.

Am I the only one who received today an email from UChicago about research opportunities? Its subject name was something like “reaction movie”… I just cannot understand why they keep sending those emails to us if the decisions where already taken. It just makes me feel sorry for what I will lose if I don’t get in (which is a great possibility) and more anxious for Thursday (I am an international student so by the time they will release the decisions it will be already Thursday in my country). :neutral_face:

@‌ You can contact your regional counselor and see if there’s something you can do. Earlier on this thread somebody said that they were told to go ahead and submit everything because it’s a soft date, but that they wouldn’t recieve their FA package with their acceptance if they got in. Don’t give up!

@geoarts I’m pretty sure we all got the email. I’d feel the same way, but I’m sure everyone who’s ever expressed an interest in the school got it. It’s nothing personal.

Why are you guys getting on about acceptance rates? Why do you even care? It’s just going to stress you out more.

:( Just got rejected ED…GO CHICAGO!
