Yeah, I’m not banking on getting in just because I did ED. I just don’t want to have to go through all the time and trouble to withdraw my other applications if i get accepted. If I don’t get accepted, I already have them done and ready to submit, and the deadline isn’t until January 1st, in case I want to double check everything again.
My DC had applied to only one other school (UW Madison) when she got her EA result from UChicago last year. Next two on her list were SCEA, so no real point. Apps were written and scores had been sent (before she figured out which school would be her EA choice), but her take was why waste the $ on app fees? It’s a reasonable position if you’re sure about what you want and all your ducks are in a row. But could make for a miserable Xmas holiday, especially if an early rejection leads you to rethink your essays.
Hey guys, sorry if this has been asked many times already (but seeing that there are 200+ posts since I last checked this thread…) does anyone know at what time decisions will be out tomorrow?
EDIT: Nvm. 4 PM Central time is what I’ve seen!
I’m really nervous about tomorrow. Has anyone received a Likely Letter? (Do I even want to know, because I didn’t, and that would make me insanely worried?) Anyone have words of comfort?
As far as I know, Likely Letter goes to sports recruits and other recruits.
@A Duracell I hope so. I just wasn’t sure if they were sending them out to non-athletic students or not.
Every school deals with the ED agreement slightly differently. Most give you 30 days in the acceptance letter to figure out the financial aid you were offered, get any questions about financial aid dealt with, withdraw from other schools, and pay the deposit. The whole you have to drop all other applications the second you get an ED acceptance is not accurate. This is UChicago’s first time doing ED but I would imagine they will have a similar letter to other highly competitive/Ivy League schools giving students 30 days to get all of the business completed. Generally speaking UChicago’s aid is among the most generous and except for a few people with very complicated situations where it’s hard to calculate with a NPC there shouldn’t be big surprises. The rate of people asking to be released from ED for financial reasons is very small at similar institutions so they know they don’t have to use scare tactics to get people to accept their ED acceptances. The other thing that helps UChicago to get people to pay their deposits ASAP is that housing priority is based on deposit date.
@acdchai is the housing deposit refundable if you don’t actually enroll?
I am in the boat of kids who, if accepted ED, will 100% be attending. Money is tight, but my parents and I are working out a plan.
There is not a separate housing deposit only an enrollment deposit so you have to be 100% committed to get your place in line for housing. No refunds. There aren’t any terrible housing situations but the houses are unique and some people have strong preferences for a single or double style room, AC, modern or classic building, which side of campus, etc.
hi im planning on applying on the regular pool but im not sure if i should apply ED2 or just a normal RD… what do i do?
@rusty8642 I’d start with UChicago’s description of the two plans and figure out which one fits you best. No one here can tell you what to do beyond that . . .

Guys: predict I will get deferred or rejected?
All the best guys! Due to weird time-zoning, decisions will be out for me 6am Tuesday morning. Not gonna be able to sleep tonight…
Applied EA btw, and this thread is making me nervous about that decision.
@allima ED2 if you know you’d accept an offer of admission to UChicago regardless of other decisions or circumstances do ED2, but if not do RD
I’d much rather get rejected. Don’t toy with my emotions, UChicago
