oh haha I see
I realized that immediately after haha @quoderatuhhh (also like your username) I guess I just got so excited!! My brain totally tricked me! I just want to know my decision already…ughhhh. The wait is killing me.
I realized right after I posted (silly me) Thanks for pointing that out! @quoderatuhhh (also like your username) I guess I just got so excited!! My brain totally tricked me! I just want to know my decision already…ughhhh. The wait is killing me.
The most agonizing part isn’t the wait the week before but the wait hours and minutes before and that anxious feeling when you know results are posted and know that the minute you press that button your hopes and dreams are either going to be fulfilled or be crushed…
@grinnellephant01 I applied to UChicago ED, Univeristy of Illinois EA, and Regular Decision to UPenn, Harvard, Princeton, Northwestern, Duke, and Vanderbilt.
Applied ED to UChicago. I cannot wait for decisions to come out! I took a serious tone with my why uchicago and uncommon question essays. I wrote sincerely about why I liked UChicago and for my uncommon I wrote of the issues with the electoral college (hopefully works out for a potential public policy major). My favorite things essay was definitely my most creative. I conveyed how my favorite music genre was the compositions of Hans Zimmer in the DC comic book movies, making me see deeper into the characters that I once thought of as "light-hearted’ and “cool”.
Good luck to everyone!
@stockqueen thank you! haha. It’s killing me, too! I really hope it’s by the 18th so that I don’t have to pay to send transcripts to RD schools (I applied ED to Chicago).
@quoderatuhhh Sameee. I don’t want to pay for all those applications if I get in to UC. But I’ve also been unmotivated af when it comes to my regular apps so I might not even have them done in time \m/
Anyone know when EA decisions come out for UChicago? I can’t find a definite date.
yesterday on ViewChicago Live, the admissions officer said within a few days they’d release a date
D1’s dream school is UChicago. Applied EA (and not ED) because she hopes for merit aid. We expect zero financial aid (I ran the numbers). She is admitted to a local safety school but has no real desire to attend the safety school. She has applied RA to 3 schools comparable in admission rates to UChicago. All those applications are complete with recommendations sent and received by all schools. We expect her to apply nowhere else if she is admitted to UChicago EA. Therefore, she has asked for no recommendations to be sent to backup schools. However, if UChicago notifies EA applicants on December 16 or 19 or later, all of her recommenders are then on holiday break. So, should I have D1 ask her recommenders to send their recommendations into all of her backup schools NOW, in case she does not get into UChicago? Recommenders and GC use Naviance, but there have been issues with Naviance. We hate to request recommendations be sent to a bunch of backup schools if not needed. Not only does this seem rude to the recommenders but it also seems rude to the backup schools who will wonder why they have recommendations but no application… assuming D1 is admitted to UChicago. Backup schools may remember being spurned when our next child applies next year! Second and third children are another reason we hope for merit aid, and they cannot be taken into account now for financial aid. Thoughts, suggestions, advice? Send possibly unnecessary recommendations to all backup schools before the break? Then send complete applications to backups only if UChicago rejection/deferral is received this month?
If you are facing Jan. 1 deadlines for those backups then she’ll probably need to talk to her recommenders now. Naviance uploaded the new recommender experience late this year which was a hassle; however, what’s nice is that any recommender that she has already used can easily replicate the same letter for another school. So it’s really no trouble. And guessing quite a few schools have to deal with receiving test scores, transcripts, and LOR’s but no application for exactly the reason you state - early acceptance via EA and especially ED. The colleges can handle that. No one will hold it against a sibling. How could they, when the applicant could easily have been ED which means that any application sent would have just had to have been pulled! So don’t worry about that.
OK…thanks JBS! Naviance has been a particular problem for D1’s 3rd recommender (system wants to refuse 3rd recommendation). However, if she asks for all the recommendations now, they should have time to work through any bugs.
@Sam-I-Am if she is using Common Ap. she can also send them a request through that.
Yes, @JBStillFlying , as I understand it, her first two recommendations plus that of her GC all going through Naviance easily and without issue … and then she somehow gets the 3rd recommender to send through Common Ap. It took a long time to figure it out and it is somehow more difficult for the recommender. Not sure it would get done properly if requested over winter break. What is crazy though is that D1 had applied to only 4 schools regular admission plus UChicago EA. A very reasonable number, though only with one safety. Now, however, in considering what to do if EA at UChicago does not work out … it means adding 15 more schools to her list and maxing out at the 20 Naviance allows to be sent. Now she can’t decide which 15 since she has 17 or more “backups” to UChicago. She doesn’t know very much about many of these schools since she has been so focused on UChicago. Just a natural hazard of applying EA I guess. Thanks again JBS! I sure hope she won’t need to apply anywhere else after word comes from UChicago! Good luck to everyone awaiting word!
I’m not sure if I’ll get into UChi anyone wanna guess my chances? It’s my #1

They seriously have to release a date at this point. Other top schools are already releasing results.
Last year, UChicago released the Dec 18th date on Dec 8, so yes, they should do it soon
How do they make this announcement on a release date? By e-mail or social media or other?
Last year I know was definitely posted on social media, and there might have been an email too
