UChicago is definitely my first choice, which is why I'm volunteering at the University of Chicago hospitals. I know tons of applicants each year have volunteered at hospitals, but will this help me at all when an admissions officer at UChicago sees my application? The process to become a volunteer at UChicago is very long and tedious, but I think the experience is definitely worth it.

I don't get what's so much more special working at the UChicago hospital compared to working at any other hospital. I don't think they care exactly where you work.

Well, UChicago isn't too far from my house, so why wouldn't I volunteer there? And its the only hospital in Illinois on the honor roll of hospitals, and I like to strive for the best.

Yeah, but you're asking whether the fact that you volunteered at a UChicago hospital, rather than another hospital, matters, and I would argue that it doesn't if you're doing the exact same work at UChicago hospital than at any other hospital. In other words, the name doesn't matter. They look at what you do.

As dchow said, volunteering at Chicago's hospital will not give you an extra boost over someone who volunteered elsewhere. Of course, any volunteer work is good to have.

I recommend you spend time perfecting your essay instead of worrying about this. There's a great article about Chicago admissions that's worth reading. :)
