I didn't take any subject tests (and have already gotten in a few good colleges without them...so hasn't hurt me)
i wrote my essay on the untranslatable words.
I'm nervous too.
But i have an extra layer because my mom said that even if i get in, she just has no idea how we're going to pay for it. When you really look at how much it adds up to...wow.
From the EA posts, when I got deffered, they send you financials right away. But Uchicago is a need based institution, if you are accepted and applied for aid they give you enough to cover your full tuition, less expected family contribution, if this applies. At least that is how it was explained to me. But it could be different for international students. Anyone willing to be on waitlist or gap year?
I don’t quite understand how it works. I mean, I read somewhere that you can agree to go somewhere else, but if you are taken of a wait list you can go back to the other place. Is that right?
I would even take a gap year, actually. I really want to go to UChicago)
@anerdfighter You can be on as many waitlists as you want, you can also accept an admission offer from one place but decide to go somewhere else. I know last year they called people from April to May off the waitlist. Then in May they closed the normal waitlist and sent rejections. But a few people were held on the extended waitlist for people who dropped them during the summer.
@pwil7070 So if for example I accept a Harvard admissions offer (lololol), but really want to go to UChicago, and have been put on the UChicago waitlist - in July, if Chicago offers me a place, I can drop out of Harvard and go to Chicago?
@PB1997 , they didn’t release an exact time probably for fear of server overload. EA decisions were released around 5 PM, so it may be then or it may be earlier. Just wait on the email (:
@PB1997, at this point no one knows, all we’ve got is sometime in the “late afternoon”. Speculation is that that’s sometime at, or after 4pm Chicago time (CDT)
Hey all, (Father of the Stanford thread here lol), not an applicant myself, but I want to wish you all the BEST OF LUCK!! You people are all really awesome and it’s been fun following this thread. Lol I am not even waiting for a decision but all of your posts have made me nervous!
Just best of luck to everyone and I will reiterate what you all have been saying: You all are awesome and whether accepted or denied, you all gave it your all and will end up where you were meant to be. College is what you make of it (Can’t believe I am still using this wink face. I hate the update) Just no panic attacks guys haha!
It’s 2015, and I think colleges really should make good use of Microsoft Azure/AWS or similar services. They can use a hundred servers for the first hour of decision release, and downgrade to one server after the big overload is gone. The cost will still be low.
