Hi.
I got admitted to UChicago and Yale-NUS for the class of 2019 and I am very confused where should I go to.
I have got no aid at UChicago whereas I got almost full ride at Yale-NUS but I must mention that paying for UChicago wont be a problem for me but it also won’t be an ease. I mean paying for it wont land me or my family into any debts or make us bankrupt but yeah we can pay for it.
What I need in a college is which can provide me great job opportunities after graduation and good internships (I heard UChicago gets great paying internships). I realize UChicago used to have a very study based image before but does anyone know what are the recent employment statistics ?
I want to major in either economics or business related majors and my ideal job would be to work in wall street.
Please help.
Thanks.
P.S. Please dont counter question me about why Im so interested in wall street or obsessed about it. Thanks.
I would also like to add that since Yale-NUS is relatively new and since has not graduated its first class, I have no idea what kind of jobs, internships or future can it land me up to.
Congrats! UChicago, in my opinion, would be the better choice.
Booth, the business school, is one of the best in the country, and Chicago is an amazing city where you’ll likely find all the internships you want to.
I’m guessing you want to get your bachelors, try to find a job in Wall Street, then go back to school in a few years and get an MBA? If that’s the plan, the name-brand of a very well-known school with an established reputation will be more helpful to you.
I agree with @jalebigirl. Yale-NUS is new and untested, and so far, “international campuses” of famous schools have had uneven reputations, whereas UChicago has one of the most storied econ departments in the world. If finances won’t place an undue burden on your family, go to Chicago.
Agreed, go with UChicago. It won’t hurt you guys unnecessarily, whereas “cheaping out” and going to an international campus half teamed up with a name is a literal coin toss.
thank you @jalebigirl @marvin100 and @TheDidactic
The University of Chicago does not offer undergraduate business degrees.
Yale-NUS is so new that I doubt many CC posters can comment knowledgeably about it.
I cannot … although it does sound appealing in concept. The curriculum, for at least the first two years, seems to be similar to the “Core” at Chicago or Columbia. So if you want an excellent liberal arts education … for free! … this might be just the ticket.
UChicago may be (for the near future at least) a more recognizable “brand” among employers in the USA, and maybe even in Asia. That’s assuming they understand the distinction between Yale College and Yale-NUS. Maybe some of them will assume it’s a program at Yale College in New Haven and treat you like any other Yalie (long enough, at least, for you to get your foot in the door).
I work and live in Asia and am convinced that UChicago has a significantly more recognizable brand here than Yale-NUS. I know a dozen or so students who have been accepted to Y-NUS, but I don’t think any have ended up attending.
