UChicago Waitlist Thread

I was waitlisted as well, but it seems like a lot of people were. Apparently they’ve accepted 71 off waitlist in the past, but they’ve also had scenarios of no acceptances from the waitlist, so I guess we’ll find out. Still waiting for 14 schools to hear from haha

DD was waitlisted.

I was deferred EA then waitlisted… Oh, the agony.

Alright, as someone who got off the waitlist last year, here’s what you all should do:

  1. Wait to see what other acceptances you get, and determine if you would rather be there than the UofC.
  2. Write a letter to the admissions office stating that you're still interested, updating them on any information, and (ONLY IF TRUE) that if you are accepted off the waitlist, you will attend.
  3. Send that letter.
  4. A couple weeks later, follow up and make sure that letter was received by the admissions office (I nearly got burned here; apparently they never saw my original letter so I had to send one in later).
  5. Put down a deposit at whatever institution you were accepted to that you prefer.
  6. Hope and Pray.

Note: There is anecdotal evidence that admissions looks very favorably on those who volunteer to take a gap year, and I personally think it’s been a wonderful experience for me. So, if it works for you and you really want UChicago, try to get on the Z-list.

And, most importantly, don’t stress over the waitlist. I was enrolled at Cornell before I was taken off Chicago’s waitlist, and I fell in love with that school as well. If you don’t get off the waitlist, you want to make sure that whatever choice you make is the best option for you.

Best of luck to all of you!

Waitlisted :neutral_face: I am still apprehensive about going anyways because as a premed… going to UChicago is apparently a dumb idea due to their grade deflation… is that true?

Waitlisted at UChicago, accepted to MIT. I’ll never understand how college admissions works!

DarkRose52 reporting in for wait list duty :sob:

Congrats, @uclabound1!

@uclabound1 accepted to Chicago, rejected at MIT (after being deferred)

I’m confused too

@FormerlyDeferred‌ Which was your top choice? To be honest, I would rather attend UChicago than MIT!

@uclabound1 I don’t know! I liked them both. I’m kinda glad I don’t have to make a decision.

I’m probably going to do CS + History double major. MIT’s obviously better for CS and Chicago’s obviously better for history. But I feel like the schools are pretty similar besides the stem/liberal arts focuses. My parents are MIT alums (yay for MIT not caring about legacy!), I showed them some videos about Chicago and they said that the vibe was EXACTLY like MIT, just with different focuses.

So don’t despair! I’m sure you’ll be happy at MIT. You can take classes at Harvard to fill your humanities needs and simulate the core. You should read over the admission blogs, I’m sure they’ll make you more excited about MIT. And honestly, a waitlist isn’t a rejection. You can still come join us in Hyde Park.

Good luck!

Waitlisted by some miracle… I was expecting full on rejection with my average, if not under average, stats (31 ACT, 3.97 UW GPA, 4.3 W). Currently accepted to Santa Clara and LMU, deferred from Boston College and Northeastern. Waiting on UCSB, UCLA, BU, USC, and Chapman.

Waitlisted and I was totally expecting a rejection!

S was waitlisted for spring semester?? why would u chicago wait list someone for spring semester??? :open_mouth: Can someone shed light on this? thanks.

@SSFDad‌

What? Do you mean that Chicago offered a late start to your son? Or that Chicago just stated that they would not accept him in for the fall quarter, but they’d put him on a waitlist to start in the winter or the spring?

(Also, to go a tiny bit off topic, we can’t waitlist anyone for the spring semester, because, well, we only have quarters).
