UCI Appeal 2015

@aba100 i still havent heard at all yet

anyone know when uci is gonna let us know?

i called uci today and the lady told me that everyone who appealed should hear back this month. Even though some people on the waitlist were rejected and that the admission target was met, the lady told me there is still a chance for people that appealed to get accepted.

I sent an inquiry to the message center last night asking why I was formally rejected yet my appeal was still pending. They replied earlier this afternoon saying their response (and some other people who appealed?) would be issued by the end of the day. I ffing got in dude whaaaaat, is this real life? I was so sure that I was rejected not only because of the wait but also because I wasn’t sure if my gpa was high enough since I knew I was borderline, anyway here are my unimpressive stats:

Junior Transfer

Major: Comp Sci

GPA: somewhere around a 3.4 at least, had to have been otherwise my tag wouldn’t have gone through. And I really doubt I wouldn’t have gotten in if I hadn’t have tagged. Comp Sci is really really REALLY impacted at UCI and my GPA is trash tier compared to the competition nowadays. I intentionally didn’t want to calculate my gpa because I was afraid I would miss the requirement by a hair.

Pre-reqs: Finished all major pre-reqs offered at school, managed to snag C++ data structures which is apparently rare for community colleges since most, if not all, teach only Java data structures. I list this as an advantage because UCI prefers C++ data struct over Java data struct even though they will except the latter.

IGETC: Finished all of them except for foreign language, prob won’t matter considering I’ll be spending a few quarters making up the lower div courses not offered at CC, I’ll have more than enough time to finish foreign lang in the (likely) 3 years I’ll be here.

Appeal: Obviously wrote about how it was weird that I was waitlisted with TAG even though my counselor confirmed that I fulfilled all the requirements. However I wanted to make sure I addressed other issues that they may have been considering like my borderline gpa and my commitment to being a CompSci major - so I talked about a job that I had throughout CC and how intrusive it was to my academic life. I also mentioned that I was at CC for 4 years because I wanted to make sure that the major I chose was the right one.

4 long self-loathing years and I finally get my break. This is literally the best thing that’s happened to me, I feel like I can breathe again after 9 months of being in the dark. I don’t know for sure if my TAG was approved, but I managed to get admitted this late into COMPSCI, of all programs. That being said, there is most definitely hope.

i’d like to thank twitch chat for keeping me from despair
SMOrc WE WILL NEVER BE REJECTS SMOrc

Any high school appeals hear back yet

what is an appeal exactly?

@cali86girl: An appeal asks for reconsideration on the admission decision given by UCI either a rejection or a waitlist by supplying medical records, school transcripts, basically new information which might change the original decision to an acceptance.

Mine is still pending

hey guys. just wanted to let you know that my friend just got accepted after appealing from a rejection but for some reason, he was accepted as a sophomore instead of a junior even though he was transferring as a junior

he was accepted around 3am-5am last night

fellow high school applicant here @genieforuboi. still pending for me too. lol expecting a rejection at this point for non-transfer freshmen.

also a high school applicant, still pending

Mine is pending as well (high school applicant). If any high school appeal applicant has been rejected, please reply so that we know.

Based on the posts above, some high school appeal students were accepted around May 23rd-24th and then no one was accepted/rejected so far. Right?

Just called UCI Admissions office. They said the decisions would come out between now and beginning of August for most of the students. For some students, it may go till mid-August. #-o Keeping the fingers crossed.

If anyone hears anything, please keep us updated.

See the article below. If you do not get in, it probably is not because of your performance but the UC budget. It is all about the money.

@tamay123 I called the office yesterday and they said at the end of this month decision should be released.

Just got my decision last night. Junior Transfer - Denied

IGETC: Complete
TAG: Yes
3.6~ GPA
Major: CS

@JPJordan what!!! How did you get rejected even though you met the TAG and completed the IGETC??? Doesn’t TAG guarantee you admission???

BTW any freshmen got their appeal decisions yet?

@spect117 I’m not sure. The first time I got rejected, when I had called admissions, they said I was missing a couple units to meet the unit requirement. Apparently two courses I had taken previously were too similar so they counted it as one. I was able to take two online class for the Spring to meet the requirement and appealed … yet… still not accepted. Not sure why since I have all of my units and everything checks out. Don’t know what to do, it’s a real bummer.

Btw, for your admissions portal, are you able to use the message center? I really want to get to the bottom of this and tried sending them a message, but there’s not option for me to compose a message. It just looks like this for me: http://i.imgur com/NdhhZuu.png (Delete the space and add the “.” it wouldn’t let me link it otherwise)

Anyone know how to use the message center? I can’t send any messages through it
