UCI Campuswide Honors

Does anyone know what this program is like, and what I can expect if I sign up for it?

I looked on their website and it seems kind of vague...?

My main questions at the moment are:

What are the main differences between honors and not-honors?
Is it a good idea to do it? Like... is it worth it, in your opinion?
Is the workload drastically heavier, or notably heavier?

The best benefits are intangible.
Looks like you are worry about work load.

UCI is trying to create a better academic environment for a few and a peer group of scholars. Many people may choose not to interact with high achievers though.

Honestly? Sounds like junior high.

?? Really ??
I’ve never seen someone be an outcast cause they were high achievers.
I’ve seen high achievers become outcast because they’re obnoxious and suck ups though… http://i.imgur.com/tEPK5.gif

@OP: Personally, I would do it for two main reasons:

 1. Clear most all your GEs with the required classes (although this can really F up your schedule…).
 2. Priority enrollment.

With all the budget cuts, #2 could end up being way huge for you kids currently entering UCI. For some majors, priority enrollment doesn’t really matter. If you’re a math major and want to take Math 140A, there aren’t 300 kids trying to sign up for that class. And if it somehow did fill up, you could probably email someone and get in anyway. Wouldn’t say the same about history 15A or something.

two other points:

 1. you won’t (nor should you) be defined as a CHP kid. it won’t eat up your life. All my friends who are CHP never really mention it (admittedly, I’m not super close with these particular people). They might have an event every few weeks to attend or something, but nothing huge. If anything, it seems to effect their classes (scheduling) more.

The main thing that may not be useful for you is the honors thesis. Personally, I think its really good to do something like this as an undergrad, even if you don’t want to go to graduate school; but you may feel differently. If that’s the case, just drop out of CHP during junior-ish year, after you’ve used the priority enrollment.

But you can clear out your GEs with much easier classes.
I dropped CHP because those were my hardest classes, but they were interesting. I guess I just took the easy way out.

However, if you dorm it may be worth it for the friendships you’ll make.
Also, you can always choose to get out of CHP whenever you want.

I’d recommend sticking through with it for at least freshman year because HumCore is a pretty good series to take and you’ll have priority enrollment.
