UCI change of major?

Hey guys,

so this last fall, I applied to mostly universities of CA. I did a few Cal States as well (LB and Cal Poly--both which I got accepted to) but I've recently done some research and found out that UCI has a CGS (Computer Game Science major) and if i get accepted, I REALLY want to go there with that major. The problem? I applied as a History major and I'm not sure what their policy is for changing majors. I looked on their website, it said current students can change their major, but not new transfer students. So assuming I get in, and I go there, since i will be a "current student" will I be able to change my major? Any info would help. Thanks everyone, and have a happy valentines day! :)

ohh and btw, I’m a transfer student from a cc.

I changed my major on UCInet like a month ago, but I don’t think it has been updated. Just create an account if you haven’t done that yet. Whether or not changing your intended major will affect your chance of getting in I don’t know.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I have an acct already, but I’m guessing I should change it after being admitted. Idk, I need to do more research

From what I understand, you can only switch majors online for UCI only if the major you want to switch to has room for you to switch, AND if you completed all the prerequisites and requirements for that major. So if Computer Game Science is impacted, don’t get your hopes up!

Otherwise yeah, you could probably try to change your major during orientation or later in the Fall Quarter.

Yeah I think I’m gonna have to wait till after I get accepted. But do you guys think CGS is a good major? Cause I know Video Game Design majors generally have a hard time finding a job after graduation. I feel like this is a different major which expands the persons knowledge and experience therefore giving a higher chance of employment. What do you guys think?

I haven’t really heard many good things about working in the video game industry but then again, I don’t really know much about the industry as a whole. A degree in that seems like a very specialized computer science degree, unless I’m wrong? Why not just do regular computer science instead?

Computer science, I’m pretty sure, will be impacted and a very slim chance of changing my major to that. But CGS on the others hand, though may be competitive, still seems easier (at least to me) to get into. A CGS major crests a good foundation for CS as well as the game aspect of how they are add, ect. And personally, I feel like I would be more happier as a CGS major

Wow, thank you auto-correct for that. Create* and made*
