Thank you dmoneybags. Congrats to you.

Did anyone that applied to an engineering major get accepted into CHP? If so, what are your stats?

Does anyone know when they are releasing the decisions? I heard it was going to roll out starting March 1 this year, but do not see any posts on it yet.

Some of my friends have been rejected already, but I haven’t recieved my decision yet. I guess all we can do is wait.

Yopperpo - I didn’t realize rejections were already being sent out. Do you know what major your friends were rejected from; or their stats?

when will non honor answers come out like regular!!! uhhh the wait

I hope they don’t send it out in batches!

Kabnbb- I don’t know their major but their stats were like 3.2 UC GPA and 1600 SAT, so pretty low.

Hey guys, I currently go to UCI. If any of you are thinking of going to UCI, here are a few things to know:

1) The demographics of the school;
Walking around campus, you would think you’re in Korea and not California. Blonde white girls are urban legends. Official statistics are 54% asian but it feels like 70%. In my freshman dormitory, my hall was 48 students; I think eight of them were white.
People from all over and all income brackets go here. People from LA, NorCal, the Valley, out of state, out of country…great diversity in this sense. I love this part.

2) The social scene of the school.
Irvine is a socially quiet school. The vast majority of students do not party or drink. Most freshman spend their days making runs to In-n-Out across the street and playing League of Legends.
If you want to party, you need to 1) be an athlete or 2) go Greek. The Greek scene is very alive at Irvine, where 1 in 10 students are in a fraternity or sorority. Most frat parties are in Newport, a 15 minute drive or free 30 minute bus ride from campus. Sometimes there are keggers on the beach, but only for members of that fraternity/sorority. You NEED to go Greek (or be an athlete) at UCI if you want to party, PERIOD.

If you like staying in, UCI is perfect for you.
If you like going out and partying, you can find it at UCI (alhough its a bit harder).

3) Tips for incoming freshman
- Pick Mesa Court over Middle Earth. Mesa is newer, the rooms are more spacious, and the people are generally more social. Middle Earth however is closer to campus, but you can walk from Mesa Court to the far side of campus in only 15 minutes so its not really worth it. Overall pick Mesa.
- Get the unlimited meal plan if you live on campus. The 100 meal plan is designed for commuters, NOT residents.
- Rush a fraternity/sorority.
- Parking is $100 a month. Don’t bring a car, unless you plan on rushing a fraternity or sorority because its nice to be able to go to Newport Beach whenever you want.

is the LoL thing true? if so thats quite hilarious

@Yopperpo: Also, when did your friends receive their rejection?

Not sure, all I know is that it was after March 1.

Anyone receive any decisions yet…??

Still waiting

Just a little tid bit from a few years ago. My daughter was wait listed by UCI and was really upset, as this was a safety school for her. But then she did get in and they gave her a merit scholarship. When I called and asked about that, they explained that they get SO MANY great candidates and they can’t say yes to all of them. She was a Bio major and that year they had the highest number for that major they said. So don’t loose hope if wait listed. It is so hard but be patient and know you will end up at a great college if you are willing to keep at it. Good luck to all of you great kids. Good luck to my son too!

@collegeisgreat thank you for sharing that

what are the average stats for UC Irvine? anyone know?

@UCchemE Thanks for that post, always nice and interesting to hear the opinions of actual students from the school.

prolixfelix - Here is something that I have found for freshman SAT and GPA stats. Hopefully this helps you. Good Luck!
