Hey all you freshman out there! I have an update for you guys to get a head start. The following link is something called the Web Schedule of Classes (WebSOC). Browse through it to find the times of your prospective courses if you already know them. Barely any professors are listed yet, though. Have fun.

But orientation doesn't happen until at least july so i'm curious how did some of you know what class you're taking. Perhaps you're not a freshman?

yes, they tell you classes that freshman normally take, but you don't have to follow their advice.
and yea, your registration window opens in august.

Check ratemyprofessor.com for the professors that are listed, so you dont get stuck with a bad teacher, esp if you have the ability to find the same class at a different time.

I have a couple of tips when scheduling. My first quarter I thought I could manage 8 am classes with hour breaks inbetween classes here and there; however, college life got the best of me and now I don't have classes until 1pm on most days. I would recommend to have all your classes back to back, with a break before lab if you are taking one. Also, try to have classes after 11 or so as much as possible. I had a quarter with Tues/Thurs off every week, but no matter how envious my friends were, I didn't like it. Every other day was packed and made me just want to sleep all through my days off. For me, getting out at 3pm or earlier is really nice, so aim for that. Annnd ratemyprofessor.com is a great website to use. Oh, and don't panic if you get a late enrollment window. It changes every quarter and usually you can go to whatever lecture you want (and sometimes discussions) so it's okay.

These is just my own methodology for scheduling and to each his/her own. Good luck to the rest of you.

If you can handle humcore, take it. It's so worth it. I definitely cannot handle it nor can I fit it into my schedule so I decided not to take it.

well for me, i just found out i got an A on my midterm, that i read absolutely NOTHING for (only online summaries the night before) and that i was able to BS an essay that i hadn't read for, depsite me not starting until like 10 hours before it was due, and i still got a B+, and that i get to write a research paper on something that i actually like while my roommate (who is in writing) is writing hers on tomatoes.
getting a good TA is a bit like luck of the draw, but so far only my fall quarter TA was a little hard and i have been able to coast through with B's with minimal work involved since.

humcore is definetely a good thing to take. I however, cannot write at all, compared to other people. I have a friend in the dorm, who can create a masterpiece of art with words, making her essay one of a kind, and a real treat to read and help grade. I knew that i couldnt do that first of all, and since im a math major, i didnt have the time to do so with the math and science classes that i was taking. Humcore is really good since it knocks out a lot of useless breadth requirements that really just suck to do, but requires that you put quite a bit of time and effort into it as well. just something to think about.

what i don't get it which placement tests we need to take. the uci website says we take only the tests which apply to the classes we want to take at irvine. but how do we know if we need to take chem or physics?? can we take physics before chem in college??
