Hi guys! I'd really appreciate it if I could get some of your input. I'm deciding between UC Irvine with Regents' and UC San Diego for psychology. I'm having a hard time because UCI is offering me a lot more money and I would have priority enrollment with Regents'. But UCSD's psychology program is ranked a lot better than UCI's. I'm just kind of stuck. Any and all opinions would be appreciated! Thanks a bunch.

Go with Irvine if money is a big factor, also compare course requirements. You could also do CHP. Irvine is also near the beach, maybe a little farther, but whatever.

I wouldn’t say money is a big factor but I think I definitely need to take a closer look at course requirements. I guess the main thing I’m worried about is whether the priority enrollment and research opportunities that I’d get from UCI is better for me than the possibly better education I could get from UCSD. Thank you for responding!

I would take UCI with Regents in a heartbeat. Ranking doesn’t matter for undergraduate programs, I don’t even think they rank undergraduate psychology programs. Most of that prestige stems from the work done at the graduate level. Both are UC’s and will give you an unsurpassed education but UCI with Regents (and CHP?) will give multitudes of research opportunities, course flexibility with priority enrollment, and priceless interaction with faculty. Regardless of ranking, you will still be taking general Psych courses that teach the same material as other schools.

I chose UCI over UCSD for Economics despite the disparity in graduate school ranking (15 vs. 44).

I actually looked up undergraduate psychology programs but I’m not even sure if the ranking system was an official one by any means. You seem to be happy with your choice of UCI instead of UCSD? Do you really get more interaction with faculty with Regents’? Thanks a ton, by the way.

I didn’t get Regents but I was accepted into the Campuswide Honors Program which provides undergraduates with close interaction with faculty through discussions that are taught by professors, a mandatory thesis requirement for senior year, and special events for CHP students where faculty are involved.

I’m assuming if you got Regents then you got into CHP?
