UCI Transfer -- Transcript Problems

Hello. I was just wondering if I can get some insight/help with my current situation.

So my situation is that I went to two different types of school for college. For my first year of college, I went to a private college. For my second and third years of college, I went to a community college. For my fourth year, now that I am finished with the prerequisites and was accepted to UCI (NO TAG), I'm planning on transferring. However, I'm having troubles with regards to my transcripts.

When I was applying for the UC, I listed every single class that I took, including the ones I took for both the CC and the private school that I attended. I did this because I thought I would be able to send both transcripts to the UC. However, the private college I attended first told me that I would not be able to gain access to my official transcripts because they have placed a financial hold (I think that is what it was) or something on my transcripts.

The thing is, though, is that majority of the classes that I took that were actually important for the UC transfer (major prerequisites, all of math all the way up to Calculus II, 1 year of chem, 1 year of bio, second class [ENG 110] of my English class requirement, and many other classes that makes the total units to 62 UC transferable units, which passes the 60 unit UC transferable units requirement) all came from the community college that I attended. The only thing that was really important that came from my private school that I attended is the first class [ENG 100] of my English class requirement (which I don't know why they would need if it shows that I was able to take the second half in the community college), and 2 classes that I needed to finish the IGETC (Intro to Psych and Abnormal Psychology).

So from the CC I attended, I was able to complete: 62 UC transferable units consisting of the prerequisites I needed, majority of the IGETC requirements, the second class of the "2 English class" requirement, 1 year of chem, 1 year of bio, and all math courses up to Calculus II.

From the private school I attended: the only thing I really need is the first class of the "2 English class" requirement, and 2 of my IGETC-potential classes (Intro to Psych and Abnormal Psych).

What do you guys recommend I should do?

Does this mean I cannot send my transcripts to the UC? Does anyone have a suggestion or a way around this to help? What should I do? I'm really scared about this. I really hope to not have all of the work I have done go to waste.

Thanks in advance for your help. I really appreciate it.

I think you have to send the transcript since you listed those classes on your application, you need to call both schools and see what can be done, but in the end I think you will have to clear that financial hold…

So, you’re only having trouble sending your private college transcripts, right? I don’t know if this is the best method, but what I would do is notify UCI through MyAdmissions. There is a “message/topic” in the MyMessages that fits this problem. Maybe they can provide some insight and advice, but you may not receive a reply until tomorrow or later.

After sending that message, even if I haven’t had a reply from UCI, I would try clear that financial hold. A financial hold is usually there because you didn’t pay for classes or fees. Access your private college’s online portal and see what you owe, if you can. If not, call and see what you need to pay off. Then ask to send out your transcripts. I would do these tasks ASAP, because schools need time to “process” the transcripts and then there is the mailing time.

You must get rid of that hold. Pay the money. They have to have final transcripts from every college you ever attended. Failure to provide them will jeopardize your admission.

Hello. Thank you guys for all the replies you have been able to give. They really helped, and I appreciate them.

The thing is, though, is that I just called the private college, and they said that they would not able to release the hold until I pay off a certain amount of money (which is what you guys said). However, I don’t think I can pay all that money before I need to send my transcripts in. I can maybe pay it off little by little, but not all at once, especially before the date that is required for the transcripts to be sent in.

I just sent the same questions to the admissions office. Hopefully they can also offer some insight on this situation.

Thanks once again.

Neither UCI nor any other college or university, public or private, will permit you to enroll unless they receive copies of your official transcripts from every college or university you have ever attended. I am virtually certain that the private college you went to will not release your transcript until you have paid them the entire amount due. The transcripts are the only real leverage they have to compel you to pay them the full amount you owe. I do not see them agreeing to negotiate on this and nothing less than receiving from you payment in full must occur before they remove the financial hold. Even if you have to take out a loan you absolutely have to pay them the total amount due now if you hope to enroll at UCI.

if you listed a course that you had taken, you must submit a transcript for it… you have to clear the financial hold and retrieve the official transcripts

Oh okay. I see. I’ll try to contact them to see what we can do.

Thanks once again for the responses guys.
