Hello. I was just wondering if I can get help with regards to my problem.

So my situation is that I went to two different types of school for college. For my first year of college, I went to a private college. For my second and third years of college, I went to a community college. For my fourth year, now that I am finished with the prerequisites and was accepted to UCI (NO TAG), I'm planning on transferring. However, there is a problem with my IGETC.

For one section of the IGETC, I am required to complete 3 types of classes. I was able to complete one of those classes in the CC. However, I was supposed to have two of the classes done from my private school since they are equivalent to the IGETC requirements (Intro to Psych, and Abnormal Psych). However, when I spoke to the counselors at the CC, they said that I needed the official transcript (not unofficial transcript) from my private school to certify the IGETC from that particular CC.

This is where my problem is.

When I applied for the UC, I put that I will have my IGETC finished by the end of the school year. However, it turns out that the CC needs my official transcripts from the private school I attended in order to approve the two classes I needed for the IGETC. The thing is, though, is that the private school will not send my official transcripts to the CC due to them having a financial hold on my transcripts. Does this mean my IGETC will not officially be approved? Is there any way I can have those classes to the CC without the official transcripts (maybe unofficial transcripts instead)?

What do I do?

If my IGETC is not approved, but I put on my UC application that I have completed it, will that affect my acceptance? I have, however, finished the prerequisites for the major that I applied for, PLUS more for that major.

So what do you guys recommend me to do?

Thank you so much for your time in advance. I really appreciate it.

no it won’t harm you in any way. you just need to take like 2 more classes at uci if you don’t get igetc certified

Thanks for the reply.

So it won’t affect my admission to the school then? Even under the circumstances I just mentioned above?

No it won’t. don’t worry. the only thing you need to worry about is if you failed your classes.

Philosuop is wrong. You must submit all transcripts from all colleges. If you do not, your admission may be in jeopardy. IGETC certification isn’t the big problem, not submitting all transcripts is.

I agree with LAforlife, the bigger problem is your transcripts. UCI requires that you submit official transcripts from all the colleges you attended by July 15th. If you have some sort of academic hold that prevents your private school from sending the transcripts then you’re in trouble. Clear up the financial hold immediately, if you can’t I don’t see how you expect to transfer without being able to send UCI your transcripts.

Oh okay.

The thing is, though, is that I just called the university. The amount of money that I need to pay, however, to have the hold on my transcripts lifted is high, and I cannot afford to pay for all it right now. I can eventually pay for it in installments, but the amount is too high right now, and I cannot pay for all of it by July 15.

Is there any other way around this? Maybe the unofficial transcripts until I get the hold lifted?

Also, so my stating that I finished the IGETC in the application wouldn’t affect it, even if my official transcripts from my private college prevents me actually getting it certified?

Thank you guys once again for responding. I really appreciate it.

EDIT: By the way, I just emailed UCI just to see if I can get any more information on the situation.

IGETC is certified by your CC, if they certify it, you have no problem. But if they won’t without transcripts from your private school, you obviously have a problem. But once again, IGETC certification is nowhere near as important as getting all of your final transcripts to UCI. Call UCI immediately an tell them your situation. See if you can work out something with them.
