Hi guys,
So I’m having a bit of an issue deciding which UC I want to go to. All through high school and community college I said I was going to go to UCLA, but this past semester I’ve been leaning more towards UCI. Here are the pros and cons of both schools:
UCLA - pros:
Prestigious school
Higher Ranking for Biology and Premed
Closer to home
Has been my dream school for 5 years
UCLA - cons:
More competition
Harder to find research and EC opportunities
When I visited the school, I discovered that I wasn’t very fond of the south side of the campus (where I would be spending most of my time)
UCI - pros:
Calmer city – I found that I was more comfortable when I visited UCI in comparison to UCLA
More opportunities for research and EC
Less competition/easier, which will make it easier to take part in the opportunities I mentioned
UCI - cons
Farther from home (but only by about 30 minutes)
Less prestigious
Lower ranking for biology and premed
I’m a hardworking student and I currently have a 4.0 GPA at my community college, so I’m not worried about how UCLA will most likely be harder - I’ll work equally as hard at both colleges. I’m more worried about how Med schools will view me depending on which college I transfer too. Does UCLA make that much bigger of a difference to med schools? Or does having the opportunity to get better grades and participate in more research projects at UCI help me more?
Where do you guys think I should go?
