I recently got admitted into UCLA for Political Science and UCI for Economics as a transfer student. I will also likely consider minoring in accounting at UCLA and double majoring in Political Science at UCI. Which would path would give me the best future opportunities? (including law school, job opportunities out of college, etc..) Thanks in advance.

I would research which one you would be more likely to excel best in. If you pull very high grades at a UC, the sky is the limit in your chosen area. To my knowledge, graduate programs aren’t particularly picky about your university or major. Job opportunities would likely swell around either area, so UCLA would probably benefit you slightly more on that front.

Both are great schools and will serve you well in terms of providing a first rate education that you will set you up to succeed post-grad…whether that be law school or straight into industry.

It depends on the atmosphere you are seeking and what you wish to study.

I’m a UCI alum, Computer Science 08’ w/minor in Bio. I chose UCI because they are the only UC with a school of computer science (vs. department), and given that they are one of the younger UCs I was attracted to the idea of being part of their rise through the ranks. UCI is very research oriented (as is UCLA) and it was never difficult to find research opportunities during my undergrad career there. Newport Beach is a short drive and offers terrific night life, as well as a fun place to live off campus if Irvine itself is too quiet for you. Being in Orange County there is a lot going on.

In terms of opportunities… during school I was able to intern with companies such as IBM and Google. The university has a great reputation with these companies. Post grad I have never had difficulty securing prestigious (for my field) employment. I even lived on the east coast (ct/ny) for two years and found that those in industry/academia out there have a high regard for the UC system as a whole.

Honestly, this probably applies to most of the UCs. I am sure had I gone to UCLA and I’d have had similar opportunities and success. I truly believe your education is what you make of it. You should be proud to attend either.

Just want to add, for law school, LSAT is king. Your GPA is important, but second to LSAT. LSAT LSAT LSAT, nothing matters more, remember that.

Econ is a more marketable major that can result in you qualifying for more specific jobs that require skills.
I’d double check on the possibility of minoring in accounting at UCLA. There are additional requirements:
[Admissions | UCLA Anderson School of Management](http://www.anderson.ucla.edu/x3975.xml)

You are better off minoring in accounting at UCLA than going to UCI for Econ. This is only assuming you even get into the minor UCLA. It is competitive to get into.

Also you have to keep in mind that you have a limited time to graduate from UCLA. If you want to minor in it you have to get in as soon as possible. If you get in it too late, you might not be able to finish.

UCI on the other hand is guaranteed that you can declare a double major in Econ. However it less marketable.

So it is up to you to decide what you want to pursue.
