Background: I got accepted as a transfer student to UCI for Fall '09 with admissions into Campuswide Honors Program and a Regents scholarship. I did TAP with UCLA, so my chances of getting into there seem pretty high, though I find out in April. I live 15 minutes from UCI and one hour from UCLA.

For a political science major what would you do?

Go to UCLA and have to live in dorms or off campus with no scholarship

OR

Go to UCI, live at home (It's my last two years anyway) and have a scholarship.

*Money IS an issue; however, I am not hesitant about taking out loans.

**I plan on going to graduate school, still deciding between a Masters program or law.

UCI without a moment's hesitation if money is a problem. You're planning on going to an even higher level of study and it's a good idea to not take out loans until you get to law school or masters w/e

UCI Regents is not free tuition if I remember correctly. It used to be free the year before last but starting last year you only get $2500. I would go to UCLA and experience dorm life for a change.

Agree with Columbia Student. If the difference is $5K for two years, UCLA because it's that much better and getting out on your own is a good thing.

I would go to UCLA and economize by getting an off campus, other side of the 405 FWY apartment with 2 bedrooms, 4 people. That will save about half the dorm/food cost of $12,000.

You didn't mention if you have a car. If not, there is frequent and inexpensive bus service from that area to UCLA.
