Which direction are you headed, into nursing or medicine? That should play a big role in your decision.

Have you talked to any advisors at each of these schools?

You really need to consider whether you want to go into nursing or if you want to become a doctor. While they are related, they are quite different career paths. From what I’ve read, using nursing as a pathway to doctor is discouraged (would probably be a waste of time? since if you want to become a doctor you should just go straight into that.)

For either case, I would personally choose UCSD since I like the area, relative prestige that it’s acquiring, and I’ve read that it has fantastic resources for the sciences and would offer a quality education, particularly if you’re going into a science major.

crizello: well i love both since all i want to do is medicine related. but because they are both carrers i would love to pursue i cant deicide on which campus so just want to hear some people’s opinnions

neekzg: im not using nursing as a way to get into being a doctor xD just to choices i cant seem to decide on .

so the campus is fun huh?

I’d recommend Davis over either of those two. Davis has more spirit (couple of D1 programs), more social life (UCI has a lot of commuters), better college town (La Jolla is for the wealthy), and fewer gunners (UCSD). In sum, a better collegiate experience, IMO.

All UCs will have large classes. All UC’s do basic science extremely well. Grad schools won’t care about minute differences in perceived prestige.

why would anybody want to go to UCSD? Have you read student reviews? This isn’t even close. check out threads on this website titled: “is UCSD really THAT boring”?

Here’s one, there are actually several: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-san-diego/96795-ucsd-really-boring.html

UCSD is the worst UC in my opinion. Trident Eye man…Trident Eye…a man has NEEDS.

Wat about uci??

UCSD is beautiful!! And it is definitely not socially dead. Go visit for yourself.

SMCguy: let’s be specific here. the AREA in which UCSD is located is indeed beautiful. However, the campus itself is composed of too much utilitarian (cheap to construct) 60’s era concrete hardscape and buildings. Utterly uninspiring from an aesthetic point of view.

I agree that OP should go visit for herself.

I live in San Diego and know a lot of people who go to UCSD, USD, and SDSU.

People at UCSD are those who really want to learn and are really mainly concerned with school work. Just like with any other school, you will find kids who want to party. Those kids either go to raves, go out to the desert, or, which happens most often, go to SDSU. It’s mainly the the attitude of the crowd: you will find more students interning, working, volunteering, or studying.

UCI’s a lot like UCSD. A lot of pre-health-professions majors… Students are studious, lowkey like a lot of SD students…close to the beach - not on bluffs above it like SD… Irvine adjoins Newport Beach - Balboa, the main party area of NB, small Islands, Corona del Mar…but students are not real beach lovers…Irvine is cookie-cutter medium to upscale homes, planned community ~ median house price > $1M…UCI is large campus in acreage, spread out around a circular plan of buildings, also utilitarian similar to SD…that’s all I got off the top of my head.

Does anyone one anything about uci?

Ok thank u drax

Going to school at UCI feels like going to school in an office park - that’s the impression I got from my visit there. Never visited UCSD so can’t speak to that.

ricegal, interesting perception.

Some of us might say that anything ever touched by the Irvine Company development planners, that is most of Orange County south of Harbor Blvd, and west of the 405/5, for good or ill, looks like an office park :)

I plan on commuting…so I can only give you the perspective of a commuter.

I like UCI because it feels like successful people are all around you…on campus and in the city. Orange County has a lot of good jobs and they looooove UCI grads!!

I grew up in LA and plan on living on SoCal for the rest of my life. The thing I like about UCI is that I’m constantly meeting UCI alumni. It’s cool when you’re at a conference and while socializing you meet other UCI grads, instant connection. I have yet to meet a UCSD or UCD alum in LA… From my experience in LA, I usually meet UCLA, UCI, and UCSB grads.
