Does anyone know the chance of getting accepted from waitlist at UCI?
It is pretty high since most people decline admission to UCI.
Here is waitlist data from 2016 since 2017 is not available. Since UCI was overenrolled last year, I would think that very few were admitted last year. Your chances are dependent upon how many students SIR on May 1 so no way to predict from year to year.
Number of qualified applicants offered a place on waiting list: 8366
Number accepting a place on the waiting list: 4503
Number of wait-listed students admitted: 835
You can check the common dataset in Section C2 to see the previous years stats.

When do you think we should know if we got accepted from the wait list?
@bictoria: Expect waitlist notifications after May 1.
Deadline to accept/decline for CSUF is May 1. I’m waiting for UCI but if I accept CSUF and then got accepted to UCI, can I deny CSUF later when I get accepted off the waitlist?
@Dreamer009: Yes, SIR to CSUF until you hear from UCI. If you are admitted off the waitlist at UCI, then you will forfeit your CSUF deposit and decline your admission and SIR to UCI.
I just rejected my offer from UCI for Poli Sci. Good luck for those on waitlist, my spot is now open!
Just got waitlisted for CS major in UCI… what are my chances?
Transfer student that got waitlisted for Social Ecology and a 3.4 GPA. What are my chances of getting off of it?
Just remember, freshmen gets accepted from the waitlist before the transfer.
nottttt true. waitlist acceptances are at a 3% chance
:((
Where did the 3% number come from
calculated how many people have gotten admitted from the waitlist, with those who have accepted the offer to be on the waitlist, and only 3% have been admitted off of the waitlist… used previous statistics from past years. considering the number of acceptances off the waitlist is getting lower, UCI is aiming to be more selective, i assume
wishing everyone the best of luck, and like UC said, accept admission from your next top choice… we can’t control what happens next but we can control how well we do in whichever university we ultimately chose to go to…
Guys there is a reason they admitted less students this year… not only last year they had 500 over enroll, but they have less student housing because of construction that isn’t finished. So hence they couldn’t accept as many this year as there isn’t enough housing available like in previous years. They don’t want to have issues with students being “unhappy” with no housing so they are staying on the safe side.
@pcarneva I highly doubt it is housing. Even though they over enrolled last year there is plenty of housing at UCI it just may not be a dorm. My daughter is finishing up her 3rd year there this week and has secured on campus housing again for her 4th year. If housing was an issue they would not be offering it up to 3rd and 4th years who put their names on waitlists.
I am pretty sure it is housing. I actually go to UCI and if you know anything about the school is that they always under construction. Of course, your daughter got housing because she is a CURRENT UCI STUDENT. They get priority over new students (duh). They accepted less because they demolished old freshman dorms and they don’t have the capacity for more students.
They wanted the buildings to be finished in fall 2018, but the buildings are now destroyed and hence less student housing for all freshman. This issue of housing and last year’s admissions is part of the reason why they admitted less overall.
Also, they don’t want freshman complaining “that they got accepted and they cannot get housing on campus”… SOOOOOO yeah. You can blame last year’s people for complaining. UCI is playing it safe and waiting to see who doesn’t accept admissions and then will open the pool. Until then, I suggest if you are applying for the waitlist please consider that you SIR somewhere else. I doubt they will be increasing the waitlist percentage from previous years (UNLESS a huge amount declines their admission, which is unlikely).
---- More about this…
“UCI Middle Earth Expansion project consists of two phases: 1) a new student housing building on the site of two buildings to be demolished (Brandywine Commons and Brandywine Student Center) and 2) the renovation of Pippin Commons.”
“The new project will house roughly 494 students and include a new dining facility, along with amenity and classroom spaces.”
“Middle Earth may be where Hobbits live in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy; however, it is also a housing community for FRESHMAN on the UCI campus”
And if you really want a source I go there and they are still building where Brandywine used to be…
