UCI Waitlist appeal

Hey guys, so yesterday I got waitlist to UCI. It is my dream school and I really want to go. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about writing an appeal letter?

I know the website says “high grades received in the senior year, recently acquired awards, or an increase in activities are not a basis for the reversal of a decision”, but is it bad to mention that like the UC schools didn’t weight my two honors courses. Also I got all A’s last semester ( and i took 2 AP classes so my GPA went up a little bit)??

Also, I recently started getting treated for my severe OCD and Anxiety and I was wondering if this was okay to put? Idk if this would hurt me because maybe they don’t want someone with this stuff at their school ( I just want to make sure I don’t say the wrong thing!!)
I also went to a camp at UCI a few years ago for women in STEM and i thought maybe it was good to talk about this? I never mentioned it in my application because it was during middle school.

I live super close, and I don’t know if they are maybe not liking having so many people close because they don’t live on campus so they don’t pay for housing, but I am planning to-- so idk if I should mention this??

Thank you!!

I am sorry for the waitlist, but you have not been rejected so there is still some hope.

Below is my opinion only after seeing many appeal reasons and letters posted on CC and I am only trying to be honest.

  1. Not weighting your Honors classes is not a valid reason. Each HS can apply to the UC’s to determine if certain Honors classes will be UC approved. There are many students that take “honors” classes that are not weighted so why would your situation be different.
  2. Senior grades are not considered in your application review and UCI specifically states higher grades will not have an impact on your appeal.
  3. Being treated for Medical/Mental Health issue is a red flag and could do more harm than good especially if you have been recently diagnosed and being treated.
  4. Going to UCI camp will not influence their decision one way or another and this is not new or compelling information especially since it was in Middle school. Your HS record is what is important.
  5. UCI does give any local or non-local preference so living close by would not affect your decision.

You can appeal but I think you are grasping at straws. Sorry,

Just want to tell everyone that it worked and I am attending UCI in the fall!!

Congratulations and goes to show you that you never know unless you try. Best of luck.

How exactly did you submit your appeal? Did you mail it to them? And how were you notified of its success? I was recently waitlisted too but I really want to go and feel I have the stats.
