Would the following reasons be viable for appealing a waitlist decision?

  1. Offer to be placed in my second choice major or even another major.

  2. Demonstrate interest in a research area specific to UCI (ex. nanotechnology)

  3. Financial reasons; since my sister goes to UCI it would be much easier on my family if I were to go to UCI.

  4. That I would definitely accept the offer if I’m accepted.

UCI admits into the University first then considers your 1st and 2nd choice major so not a valid reason since they have already reviewed your application for 2nd choice major placement.

UCI does consider an applicants interest but that should be demonstrated before applying and not after applying.

UCI is need blind and does not meet need so your financial reasoning again is not valid. They do not care what is easier or harder for your family.

I would say none of these demonstrate a compelling reason for them to accept you. You can try but I really think you are grasping as straws.
