Appealing my admission decision from UCI

I checked my portal and found out that I am on the waiting list for UCI (my major is undeclared/undecided). They say that a student can make an appeal if they have new and compelling information that will significantly increase their chances for admission. I strongly believe that I do in fact have information that will higher my chances. I had issues at home that were out of my control and prevented me from getting the best grades I could get in my Junior year. In the first semester of Junior year, the issue I had was at its peak and I received a 3.6 weighted GPA. BUT, in the beginning of second semester, I was afraid of the situation becoming worse, and so I dropped one of the classes that had a very large amount of coursework so I could focus more on getting higher grades and so I got a 4.2 GPA in second semester. Now, in my senior year, the problem pretty much disappeared and so I got a 4.5 GPA. Going from a 3.6 to a 4.2 to a 4.5 I believe is a significant accomplishment and I would like to present this to UCI as a possible chance to redeem myself.

The questions I have are:

Can I even appeal to UCI? It states on their website that you can appeal, but can a wait listed applicant appeal to try to be accepted? Or is appealing only for those that got denied and want to be accepted?

If I, a wait listed applicant, can appeal, do you think my chances for being admitted will be higher than the ones that got rejected and are appealing?

Is it worth it to appeal?

Was any of this discussed in your essays or recommendations (especially your GC’s recommendation)? if so, it’s probably not “new information,” which is a specific UCI criterion.

See this it was posted on another thread, no idea the source http://■■■■■■■■■■■■/home/fall-2014-last-year-frosh-waitlist-appeal-cancellation-numbers/

I also want to appeal for admission. can I do this even though I was denied and not waitlisted?

You can appeal a denial. Waitlisting is not a denial, its in limbo. Some schools will let waitlist and appeal, but for UCi you can only appeal if denied.
