So does anyone have any idea when Irvine might come?
All the ideas so far have not come true :(, UCI just let me know!!! I want to move on with my life.
I know some other UCs have released waitlist decisions today… but I’m not giving myself any hope lol
I think there’s a chance that irvine wouldn’t even release another wave after picking up some people here and there after the first one. Just look at previous years, most only have 100-500 admitted from waitlist
@worriedSenior345 What CUs released decisions today?
Does anyone know if I’m able to change majors while on the waitlist? I just found the PERFECT major for myself and it’s not impacted as the major I selected, so I feel a great need for a major change!
@simonh24 I asked and they wouldn’t let me, but lmk what they say!
@vathesx Do you know if they still accept LOCI’s? I am writing an email in LOCI form that does mention the major change
They say to not send LOCIs and they don’t read them, i wanted to send one too
@vathesx I sent them the LOCI anyway and received a response containing the waitlist FAQ
Lowkey starting to feel like I would’ve gotten in if I had applied w/ my alternate major as my primary (Social Policy & Public Service)… but then again I didn’t even get admitted first time around w/ secondary major, but not sure if that may have been bc they wanted to see if any polisci spaces opened up anyway.
Just curious, has anyone gotten rejected off the waitlist?
Waitlist is a gamble at best and never a guarantee. My son has fairly solid GPA and SAT, decent EC. He applied as a CS major and has been waitlisted by UCSD & UCI. Got accepted by UCD. We live in southern CA and would have preferred he go to a southern CA UC, but it has been tough. Also UCSB accepted him but not as a CS major, but as a undeclared. He was informed on the acceptance letter from UCSB if he accepts as undeclared, it is with the understanding there is no guarantee he can later transfer as a CS major. My son’s passion is CS so I told him to go with his instinct and gut feeling. We SIR with UCD on 5/1/2020, declined UCR, UCSC so that others with similar ambitions can take those CS spots . I know the frustrations of being in a limbo. Good luck everyone. UC is really tough, not like when I applied 30 years ago and got into all the UC’s I applied to. That was then. This is the new reality.
^ i agree that it is much harder to get into a UC now compared to 30 years ago. but, there is still hope. last year 16.2% of the admitted students were international. there is no way UCI is going to meet that number. i’m almost certain, almost as certain as i was when i thought kim jong un was dead, that activity will pick up.
per this site: https://www.oir.uci.edu/Data-Hub/Undergraduate-Admissions-Dashboard.php
6068 freshman students enrolled last year. uci’s facebook class of 24 group page has approximately 4200 students. facebook stats are not perfect but it is something to ponder considering ucla and ucb have facebook groups closer to their target size.
.
Welcome to the week of mystery. Hopefully there’s a release this week… or else ?
On another note, I used the data chart in the link gruebleen sent in #332, and only 911 freshman ended up in the School of Social Sciences! Def interesting to say the least, especially considering the variety of majors in there. I wonder how much space they usually have per major?
Hi everyone, I was admitted into Irvine off the waitlist on April 28, but I was admitted with my alternate major (civil engineering) and I am in-state. The SIR date was May 7th, so initially I think the rest of waitlist students should receive their responses this week. In the meantime, I have declined my offer since civil engineering isn’t necessarily my passion. Wish you all the best of luck!
Thank you, @des174. Hoping to hear back this week.
Does anyone have a guess on when the next wave will come?
At this point, I feel like we will no longer hear from them:(((
