Uci waitlist discussion thread class of 2024

Do you know where on the Uci portal I’m supposed to upload my appeal documents? There doesn’t seem to be any option to upload documents.

UCI was my dream school, and unfortunately I was waitlisted. I submitted my SIR to UC Davis, but I’m still really sad about UCI and I’m still considering joining the waitlist. Does anyone know if housing deposits at UC Davis (or any of the UCs probably) are refundable if I chose to switch after a waitlist offer? I need to apply for housing at Davis by May 4, which is likely before I would hear from the waitlist. In order to apply for housing I’d have to pay $500 in addition to my SIR so I’m not really sure that I want to join the waitlist if that wouldn’t be refunded. I couldn’t find any information about this on the UC Davis website, and the housing office is currently bombarded with people reaching out for refunds due to COVID-19. Therefore, any information would be of great help right now, and I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

I believe you have till August 1 to get a housing deposit refunded but you can email to be sure.

I doubt this year with the coronavirus you can compare past waitlist outcomes. The first factor will be how many international students accepted can graduate this year or even get a visa to study in the US. The uncertainty will be the biggest issue if this continues

Would anyone know if my chances of getting off the waitlist are better because of my major not being impacted? My first choice was history second was Criminal justice.

It is really hard to say what they are doing this year. Who knows if there’s going to be school this at the school this fall or what’s going on.

@gpc334
There’s a UC Davis virtual event on April 4th that says they will answer your questions. We got an email about it. We still haven’t even heard from UCI, we are assuming it’s a no. That was my daughter’s first choice also. We live 1 hour away from UCI, almost 6 from Davis so we will have to decide without visiting.

Does anyone know where to submit the waitlist appeal to UCI? I could not find it in my applicant portal. Do I have to mail it to them?

Bumping earlier comment if anyone happens to know if it’s easier to get off the waitlist in a less competitive major? (History or law and society)

@aj7712: UCI admits into the University first (1st threshold) and then into the major (2nd threshold). No way to predict and many waitlisted applicants could get into UCI but into neither major (1st or alternate) but as Undeclared.

Any advice for appealing?

Accepted by UIUC and RPI for chemical & bioenginering, waitlisted UCI for biomedical engineering. UC has been really tough for out-of-state with not so perfect GPA’s. Any comment on the chance of admission?

Is it possible to increase my chance of being admitted off the waitlist if I change my current major into undeclared major ?( now, my 1st major is Computer Science and Engineering, and the alternative one is Electrical Engineering)

@Cloudstimes: You can call admissions and ask but changing majors during the admissions process is not usually allowed. UCI admits into the University first and then into the majors, so you could have gotten in Undeclared if you met the 1st admission threshold. Since you were waitlisted, changing to Undeclared may not make a difference.

@zoeh1322 same here! waitlisted for polisci. What were your stats, and did you also apply to Berkeley? I was talking to a whole bunch of UCI students at the time of my decision in the UCI Discord, and they were all confused as to how I got waitlisted with a 4.15 GPA, 1320 SAT, 30 ACT and a whole bunch of com.service/ECs. Some suggested it might have been because of “yield protection,” where a college purposefully denies/waitlists bc they know you’ll most likely be accepted to another school and take that offer, in this case Berkeley. Of course, I have no idea whether you applied for Berkeley, but I’m just taking a guess bc you’re a polisci major. If you did and you had high stats, then hopefully that’s the case!! Wish you the best of luck and hope you get admitted off waitlist for UCI!!

I got waitlisted to UCI here are my stats:
SAT: 1370
GPA: 3.9 U/W and 4.34 W
5 on ap psych and apush and 4 on euro and lang
10 APs total
Presidency of two clubs, leadership in 4, 300 hours of CS, head organizer and license holder of a TEDx event license, etc (overall strong I think)
Essays were good but I think at this point could’ve showed more personality?

@Gumbymom I could not find the appeal form in my portal. I was waitlisted by UCI

@Nicklinn: If you are waitlisted, you cannot appeal so that is why the form is not there

Thanks for your advice!

So I asked two of the admissions people that are on the live chat of the UCI websited if waitlisted people can submit an appeal, which they both say no… Apparently you can appeal to UCI if you were denied admission. I just want to confirm again, is that true?
