“Can a student who was waitlisted appeal their admission decision?
For freshman students:
Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles and San Diego will only allow appeals from students who were denied admission. Applicants offered a waitlist space may not appeal.
Riverside, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz will review all appeals, whether an applicant is on the waitlist or not.”
I emailed them yesterday about the possibility of an appeal or a LOCI as a waitlisted student on the grounds of unusual circumstance (my transcript only reflects the GPA I had while I was undergoing treatment for a medical condition, and my most updated transcript shows my true academic potential). No response yet. Is the admissions email even active right now? I tried the live chat thing, but I can’t get out of talking to Peter the Anteater.
@moogeton: Why did you not address your health issues in one of the personal insight essays to explain your academics or in the additional comment section of the application?
Update: UCI Irvine emailed me back, and I figured out the live chat. Both gave me the same answer.
“Unfortunately, if you’ve been offered the Waitlist you cannot additionally submit an appeal. Submit your Intent to Participate (SIP) in the Waitlist through your Applicant Portal.”
I think it’s safe to say that none of us can submit appeals. Best of luck to everyone with the waitlist.
@Nicklinn: For some reason I did not read your original post right. UCI does not allow appeals while on the waitlist. They only accept appeals if you are denied admission.
@mohsam I asked some of the undergraduate admission’s people on the live chat the same question and they all said they will not accept LOCI’s. It’s also said on the FAQ.
Does anyone know when UCI will start releasing waitlist decisions? Also, does anyone have any thoughts on how this years waitlists will be affected by COVID-19
@zztop123: You should expect hear at the earliest after May 1 from the waitlist, but that will depend upon how many students decline their enrollment. Since it is impossible to determine especially in light of the COVID-19, anything is possible at this point.
Make sure you SIR to another school by May 1 if you are not notified prior to that date.
