they accepted 5,000 more people than last year. 5,000!

@DAK1995 If UCI has some extra spots for waitlisters, those spots are obviously for people who are not from California, so that UCI can get more money.

Either way, there are three days left that we’ll find out, not counting tomorrow, since it’s a Sunday. So good luck, all!

I just want to let you all know that the college you go does not define your intelligence and your ability to succeed in life.

I am and have always been interested in Computer Science and taught myself how to program at the age of 12. Within a few years I became knowledgeable enough to get hired by an online company for consultant work and earned over $60,000 for myself by the age of 16. I also created a few Android applications and games with the spare time I had. I’ve been programming for over 6 years now and am basically just as knowledgeable as the average programmer with a bachelors degree, but was still denied by every UC I applied to and was waitlisted at UCI.

Why? Because I spent my time doing what I loved, programming (and also playing high school baseball), rather than being a hardcore student with “no life”.

Sure, I could have not programmed and not played baseball and got a 4.7 GPA with a full schedule of AP classes just to get into a great UC, but I instead spent my time doing what I love to do.

Look, the college you end up going to does not make you successful. I’ve done a lot without UCI, and I can still do a lot more without them!

At this point, I really don’t NEED UCI, but UCI probably needs me, and same goes for all of you! Universities are considered good because of the people who go or have gone there, and thus YOU make whichever school you go to good, NOT the other way around! :)

I like that thought very much ! well, I think it is still a great timing for us to gather here and share our thoughts ! sometimes, I’ve wondering lots of things in my life. This waiting game is certainly a time for me to review all things that hold accountable in my life! which matters the most ? UCI is my last chance as well ~ I guess all the uncertainties will be disclosed soon! and I always know that tmrw is a NEW day ! and be appreciated for what I had !

@airupthere: that was such a cynical statement about getting rejected. I don’t know what resentments you have in your life but I wish you the best. It’s one thing to be a Debbie downer and a complete other thing to attempt to bring others down to your level.

Thanks for your words, Entricle. Although I may have some programming knowledge as well, I don’t have as much as you do to get a strong job like that. Hope I can be as successful as you wherever I go. :)

@laserdanger Hahaha let me explain… USC was my dream school. I had decent grades, and I was in somewhat challenging classes from 9th-11th grade. I was the captain of the basketball team, I had an internship (1000 hours of work experience), and I had excellent letters of recommendation including one from a USC alum (my boss). For my senior, I decided to take the most demanding classes (5 AP’s). Then in February, USC emailed me and told me that they have made a preliminary decision but they wanted to see my mid-year report before they made their final decision. I asked around at my school to see who else received this email. It seemed as if the more qualified students received it and the not so qualified students did not receive it. I was so happy and confident about getting in from that point. I had a huge upward trend and I received a 4.7 GPA. I remember that at my USC campus visit in the summer, someone asked what GPA were they looking for and USC responded by saying that it’s not all about numbers but, rather they’re looking for an upward trend and improvement in the individual. My counselor told me that I had the biggest improvement that she has seen. I really thought that I was going to get in. Then I waited. On March 26th, I waited 3 hours for the mailman and I was expecting a big red acceptance package. Instead, I received a small rejection envelope. That day was the worst day of my life. But, it wouldn’t have been as bad if I wasn’t so confident and optimistic about being admitted.

@AirUpThere95 Do you have any backup school to go?

@dyehard yeah I think that I’m going to UCSB. I SIR’d already, but I have a Trojan Transfer Plan appointment in June and I’ll see whether they say that it’d be better for me to go to a junior college. My ultimate plan is to transfer to USC as a sophomore, but I would really like the freshman experience

@AirUpThere95 Same here man, I also have backup school as UCSB… And you know what, I just found out that if we’ve already SIR’ed to one UC school, we legally cannot SIR to another UC. So either way we get off the waitlist, cannot SIR to UCI.

@dyehard Actually all you do is mail a request to cancel SIR to UCSB and you then SIR to Irvine. It just means you can’t SIR to two UC’s at the same time

@efflore I see. Anyways we still have little chance of getting off the waitlist. Good luck to everyone

… I can’t believe that they haven’t sent anything today. I guess we all really have to wait right before 15th~

Yup, I didn’t get anything either. I’m guessing that they will tell us ON the 15th, right before their own deadline.

Good for me, though, no more AP’s for me to take, so that’s all I need to worry about

me either … gotta wait~~~

Really disappointed that UCI hasn’t replied to us yet… come on

Hey guys, here is an update from MsSun’s blog. She’s a UC counselor of some sort, I believe.

Anyway the [post](Error) mentions that UCI ** tentatively** will not be using their waitlist this year. A rather useful post, you guys should definitely check out her blog.

@blueoctopus, that post is for transfers! I’m pretty sure most people here are waiting for the freshman waitlist decision.

It appears as a whole that UCI was really disorganized compared to other campuses, thanks for the link.

If the blog is correct why hasn’t UCI Released earlier seems looney. Especially if they know that people don’t have a lot of time to send sir to other school. Essentially eating up our time with full knowledge they won’t have a space

Btw I am a transfer. Lots of campuses seem to be lowering transfer admission which to me is really backwards
