UCI waitlist?!

im sorry guys

@gnotsd:
Did they say when they are sending the announcement? It says on the myuci that they will notify us no later than June 15th. Why would they make us wait that long if they already know the answer for all of the waitlisters?

Freshmen waitlisters were notified by May 15th. If you are on the transfer waitlist, then you will be notified June 15th.

Edit: Oh I see what you’re saying… I’m not sure why they would even bother then. I’m going to try calling today and see what’s going on.

what’s the possibly that they will reject all freshman waitlisters but let maybe a few transfer waitlisters in? none?

I called today and the lady told me that since space was the reason why they couldn’t accept any freshmen applicants off the wait list, it is unlikely that they will accept few, if any, any transfer applicants. However, she told me that appeal decisions would be released sometime this week.

The only thing I don’t understand is why they would even bother with the appeals and the transfer wait list when they don’t even have any space to accommodate any freshmen off the wait list?

Even though a lot of people were declined, did at least one person get in from waitlist?

Hello all. We live in the East Coast and my son applied to and was rejected by UCLA and Berkeley. Strangely, we received an acceptance letter from UC Irvine today so I came onto this sight to see what was going on since he didn’t even apply to it. He has received similar offers from a couple of lesser UC schools, but I thought it was strange given the strong reputation of UC Irvine. Seeing the comments that everyone from the waitlist was rejected but my son just getting offered a spot without having applied doesn’t make any sense. The only thing I can figure is that as out of state, and no need for financial aid is why. He is a good student as well (2110 SAT’s and GPA of 4.15), but still doesn’t make sense. Has anyone else gotten this type of offer out of the blue as well?

@integral7: I don’t think so because we weren’t “rejected” from the waitlist per se, the message said that they couldn’t accomodate enough space so they had to close the waitlist, not reject the students. Which means that probably everyone did not get in.

^basically a nice way of saying “rejected”. Anyways if you applied and did not get in, then you got rejected.

@ lovecolleges Is there something else you can do with your time that is positive instead of putting other high school seniors down?-and to be honest, do you do this with the people in real life who didn’t get into their choice school? Because if you did, I hope they slap you. Its a nerve-wracking process, and you really have no right to be fooling around with a matter that involves someone else’s self-worth and motivation-in fact, its rather debasing.

After seeing some of your responses on this thread, it just seems that many of the people who didn’t get into the ‘higher’ tier schools are far more mature than someone like you. To you all, even if you didn’t get into UCI, I wish you luck. As an undergraduate, picking a place you like-that will allow you to grow and thrive-is much better than picking solely based on name. My friend who is going to UCM loves it. There’s cows.

And to lovescollege, I rather feel bad for whoever accepted you, because to be honest, while you might have great grades or SAT scores-your personality falls short (by far).

Yeah it seems like all people who got waitlisted are not being accepted apparently more people accepted their admission than anticipated by irvine. In addition if people did get accepted they would not have housing at all since irvine is not doing triples for students dorming and looking to accommodate freshmen outside of resident halls. Nonetheless good luck in the future students who did not get accepted to irvine

@ gnotsd,

I called the admissions office at UC Irvine and asked them about the waitlist. They said as long as you receive notification by email or mail that there is no longer a waitlist, then do not worry. The woman asked if I was a freshman or a transfer. When I told her transfer, she said the waitlist is still open and they will post decisions in early June. I’m not sure what’s going on with Freshman though. So yea, the person who told you nobody got accepted from the waitlist probably lied to you.

@jennjuice619

what exactly do you mean by do not worry? as in, we waitlisters still have a chance?

I think jennjuice means there’s still hope for the transfer waitlisters.

^^^^ They said do not worry, meaning that decisions are still being processed for waitlisters unless you are notified otherwise.

I just got in after being on the waitlist. 3.44 GPA majoring in Political Science

Questions for dudeguy24:

 • You got accepted from the waitlist as a freshmen?
 • If yes for the above question, then exactly when did you get notified that UCI accepted you from the waitlist?

I got in from the waitlist, FINALLY! Been waiting for so long and have been checking everyday. Got accepted for Sociology with a 3.4 GPA!

I got in too, I am so shocked. I have been waiting so long I gave up hope and the day is here. I got in, yay. I am a transfer for psychology with a 3.6 GPA. Good luck to everyone else!

So did anyone get in from the waitlist that’s not a transfer student?..
