UCLA 09 Freshman, worried about financial aid

School: UCLA (CA resident)

So, I know it's pretty late, but I don't recall receiving any kund of notice of deadline in regards to accepting my financial aid. Anyway, I remember seeing my ePAL along with the amount I qualified for and then eventually somewhere where I could input the amount I wanted to accept. I decided to wait on it to talk to my parents about how much to accept (it was more than I needed) and I completely forgot about it. When I signed onto my.ucla today, I didn't see any information pertaining to my financial aid besides an acknowledgment that I filled out my FAFSA. Am I royally screwed because I missed a deadline or is it just not up yet since UCLA doesn't start till Sept. 24?

hey, man.

i am sort of in the same situation as you. i saw my efan and epal couple days ago, and i too was waiting for my parents to look over my financial aid. now, i can’t even see my efan and even my epal on the UCLA financial aid website…

I just recently posted up a thread regarding my concerns with the financial aid… here’s the link: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/768625-help-please.html

did you receive an email from FAFSA regarding on making corrections to your FAFSA? if so, probably UCLA is updating your financial aid offer; most likely making a new initial offer…

hopefully this would answer your questions…

Call them and ask.

It is certainly possible to lose some parts of an aid package if you do not accept it. I know my daughter has to accept most aid online except for a couple of items that are accepted for her by the school. There were a couple of items that had strict deadlines (Perkins and work study I think, perhaps SEOG as well) as they were items with very limited funding. As there are more students eligible for these awards than there is money to award, it was made clear that failure to accept them would have led to them being taken away and re awarded to another student. I think she got 1 email reminder. Also her merit scholarship had a very strict deadline as it was a competitive scholarship with only a limited number available and failure to accept it by the deadline would have lead to it being lost. Some other aid such as loans needs additional processing (completing online counseling, master promissory note etc) so doing that in a timely manner is also important.

Only your school can tell you what is going on. Call them ASAP.
