@10s4life hi! Was reading some ucla threads and found out you worked there, we would love your insight on the appeal process and what’s going down?
@anthonydavis Assuming you are a transfer, most appeals won’t be looked at until after the sir deadline since Ucla will be looking at how much of the class has been filled by admitted students. Appeals are only considered if there is pertainent information that would be beneficial to the application that wasn’t made known during the app. However almost all appeals are overturned. My advice is to SIR to another school you would be happy with and not expect much out of the appeal. If you get in then great you can move on from there but assuming that the odds are in your favor of a successful appeal can lead to disappointment.
@10s4life Thanks for replying! Do you remember how many appeals actually were sent in and how many were accepted? Also, what did most successful appeals contain?
@Pat8888 Not sure, but almost all appeals are denied. The most successful ones contain information that was not disclosed in the application and provides better insight into the applicant. But usually the additional information people contain in their appeal does not fit under the “allowed information”. I am not an expert on transfer admissions so that is the extent of what I know.
@Pat8888 wow I’m sorry about that I can relate I got a B in psych and a B for history for a week I got a bad virus and for that reason missed exams. I wasn’t able to do makeup either and I was sad bec those were GEs like I could’ve gotten As.
And yeah I wouldn’t want to stay an extra year… but I hope it all works out for all of us.
@anthonydavis I applied to UCR(accepted), UCI (waitlisted) and UCB(waitlisted). What about you?
Ucr, ucsb, cal poly Pomona and uci accepted …UCSD waitlisted, UCLA & ucb rejected. I’m really hoping to come off the sd waitlist as it was my second choice after UCLA bc right now I’m not sure where I’ll go. Especially for the appeal, like I know I shouldn’t have high hopes but I can’t help but be hopeful
Anyone called to see when they estimate this year’s release to be?
@Pat8888 nope I’m too shy :-SS you should give it a shot! I feel like people hear back in waves up until July based on previous threads?
@Lumpsky what were your stats? and what did you write about? I’m also an engineering major.
@dbxstian Well my GPA is pretty abysmal for an engineering major. I don’t feel quite proud of my GPA (not because I don’t acknowledge how hard I’ve worked to get it, but because I’ve had several instructors in the past that pretty much purposely sabotage my GPA), but I’ll just say that it doesn’t even fall remotely close to the average admitted Engineering Student’s GPA.
With regards to what I wrote about, I just wrote about work experience in the industry, shedding light onto some information that I wasn’t able to mention on my initial application, and what I can offer to the university.
@Lumpsky hey you talk about how even though your GPA may not have made the cut, these are the qualities that show you’re a more qualified applicant than they originally thought. I think that’s what they look for, so good luck to you bro!
There’s a possibility one appeal could hear back tomorrow! Wish everyone the best of luck
@americajm only one? how do you know?
How are you guys holding up? I’m trying to hang on to hope but it feels kind of dangerous to be too optimistic especially considering the odds
I haven’t heard anything back yet, but hopefully we find out this week! Good luck everyone
@vt2496590 not to well I SIRed to another school but I can’t see myself going there because I still have the chance of getting into UCLA in the back of my mind. Good luck to you!
Didnt SIR to sb Bc they don’t offer my major anymore. Chances of getting in with this appeal are bleak. Probably gonna wait a year and reapply
This whole thing has got me down man… I SIR’d to UCR but I only see myself at UCLA. What also sucks is I know some students at my college who graduated with Cum Laude (3.25-3.49) and got in! I had higher honors and was rejected… Essays must have played a role…
