Does anyone know when notifications will be out for passing the first round of the Alumni Scholarship?
Someone told me that the application readings were just starting. Not sure how true this is. (Ego aside) I’m a pretty competitive applicant for these types of things, and I didn’t receive any sort of notification, which means: A) Covert rejection; or B) decisions not out yet. It is entirely plausible that they wanted to only consider actual admitted candidates, so only time will tell. Alternatively, you can call UCLA to check that up.
Keep us posted!
Hello, this is a message from the UCLA Alumni Scholarships Program.
Candidates who submitted a complete application before the February 26 deadline, received the following email. If you have any questions, please email AlumniScholarships@support.ucla.edu
What’s next?
In late March, admission notifications will be sent from the UCLA Undergraduate Admission Office. If admitted, your application will be reviewed by Alumni Scholarships Volunteers, who are dedicated alumni and friends of the university across the nation. Between April 6-10, high scoring applicants will then be invited for an interview at one of our regional sites or via Skype. Scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis. We will continue to notify recipients through August.
What determines the scholarship award amount?
After the interviews, we will make our first round of award offers for the scholarship base amount of $4,000 ($1,000 per year). Note: Additional grants are available to students who demonstrate financial need and have completed FAFSA/DREAM. You may receive up to $5,000 for your first year, in addition to your scholarship award, which is determined by the Alumni Scholarships Program and the Financial Aid Office.
What is the National Finals Competition?
In mid-April, the highest scoring scholarship applicants are invited to participate in a competition at UCLA to potentially increase their base scholarship award up to $20,000 ($5,000 per year). Students are brought to campus to meet current Alumni Scholars and UCLA Alumni for a weekend. This year, it will be held on April 23 & 24, with one day of welcoming events and another for the scholarship competition.
Wishing you the best of luck!
Can you be considered for the Alumni Scholarship if you’ve been waitlisted? Or do the readers only look at those who have been accepted?
@“UCLA Alumni Scholarships”
@missjantastic no, it is given only to admitted students.
Has anyone who made it to the interview round received any notifications about the results of the interview ?
@pleaseacceptme99 I had my interview Saturday morning and haven’t heard back yet
@ecompass mine was Saturday morning too.
I got a call from a UCLA number earlier today but I couldn’t answer and now idk what to do
@pleaseacceptme99 I didn’t get a call from Cali today… I Skype interviewed OOS, idk if that matters. Good luck! I’m sure they’ll call back and leave a message or something.
@ecompass thanks good luck to you too
Have you decided on UCLA ? Btw
Also how was the skype interview? Was it with one person on the other end ?
@pleaseacceptme99 No I’m still in the process of visiting schools.
Skype interview was three people on the other end, several relatively odd questions (so to speak, unlike my other “casual” college interviews). I hope I did well, there was one thing I wish I could have mentioned but i don’t think I said anything that would have been negative on my application
Sounds pretty similar to the in person interview. I was asked to sit at a round table with 5 interviewers and they too asked “odd” out of the box questions.
Hopefully we both did well enough to be selected as alumni scholars
