UCLA AND BERKELEY TRANSFER CHANCES

I have 55 units and a 3.9 GPA at a cc. I have over 150 hours of community service. My current major is Journalism however, both UCB and UCLA do not offer Journalism as a major. I am slightly confused as to how I would apply. The closest thing to a Journalism major at UCB is Media Studies and I am not sure about UCLA. Can anyone please help with that? Also, what do my chances of getting into one or the other school look like?

Communications? English?

Depends on prerequisite/IGETC completion. If you’ve completed all of those, and will have the 60 minimum UC-transferable units by the end of the Spring, then you have good chances.

@goldencub I will have IGETC and my prereqs done by the end of spring. I actually have 58 units so I guess I can take another course to make it 60 units. Do you know if i have to have all of the “required” courses done for that major though? because communications has totally different requirements

@ahaids, Ucla would be communication studies.

@lindyk8 would I still have a decent chance of getting accepted considering the Journalism prerequisites are completely different from the communications prerequisites on assist.org

@ahaids You need to have the pre-reqs completed for both UCs. Sometimes 1 course will not be offered at your CCC for both Berkeley and UCLA, and you can do them there. Hmmm, I though the req. for both were very similar. Let me look.

UPDATE: They’re basically the same generalized courses. Not sure what the problem is. You may possibly be missing the intro to communications/media studies for both UCs as most CCCs don’t offer it. There’s only a handful of others and they are all essentially IGETC-type courses. So it’s kind of a double whammy.

But anyhow the answer is you need them done as per the major requirements.

you’re right! the pre-reqs are similar. I confused myself with another school! thats what happens when you look at too many schools once haha. @lindyk8

Ok, cool!
