UCLA arts open house invite

Hi I received an invitation to the UCLA arts open house and I am just wondering if anyone has ever been rejected after getting one of these emails? Pretty nervous if this means a yes or an ehh maybe.

Hi! I received the same e-mail. What is your major?
I haven’t seen anyone on CC get rejected after getting the invitation to the Open House. But, there is definitely a chance that you can get rejected, especially if you have not completed the requirements or if your official transcript differs from what was in your application.

I don’t want to get my hopes up, but looking around, it seems that this is the closest thing to an “informal acceptance” we are going to get until decisions come out. Good luck! See you at the open house!

I am a design media arts major.

The only requirement I am completing this semester is my last math credit as well as major courses required by cal states and I will most likely pass with an A or at least a B. I am just nervous and double checking myself if everything I put was right. From what I remember I put in EVERYTHING. I have 2 F’s from when I first started school but I more than made up for it when I re-entered college and talked about it extensively in my essays. From what I understand its just the portfolio that really matters and not those damn essay I slaved over for months. If I don’t get in from a clerical error I will throw up.

But anyways what is your major?

Ha! Funny, I also start freaking out about the requirements and other technical details that might mess up my application. I am transferring from a private school out of state, so I get even more paranoid about the requirements, since I’m not sure they will transfer over. I also have one F in my transcript from a stupid elective I took (long story), but the rest are As and some Bs. So yeah, suffice to say, I am still very worried about that!!!

But like you said, I am counting on the portfolio being the main factor. I thought mine was pretty neat, and my essays were good, too. I am an architectural studies major.

Oh, and you are the only one I’ve seen on CC so far that has received the invitation! Where is everyone??

Hey @cinemamedia I was wondering if you could help me out with this question…
What do you think this means for the prospective art students that didn’t get an invite to the open house? I didn’t get one and I’m pretty scared… do you know if that means I’m rejected?

@CollegeARTist Honestly, I’m not too well informed about admissions… but I’ve read in past threads that many transfer applicants never got the invite and got accepted, so have hope!

Hi @CollegeARTist I’ve heard the same thing through people that were out of state and might not have gotten an invite but got accepted. I went to the open house and there were about 2-3 other transfers there and they said they approved 16 so I’m just assuming people couldn’t make it?

@cinemamedia did you go to the open house? I did and it was very confusing because many congratulations were thrown at us but it was followed by a “well you transfers don’t know yet”
It was a confusing day.

Yeah I went to the Open House too and there were only 7 of us for architecture! So I’m guessing there are “slots” for people who didn’t get an invite. I highly doubt so many people couldn’t make it.

@australopith Yeah I was soo confused! I got so excited when they were congratulating us (they did it so many times haha), but then proceeded to get anxious once again when they said “Oh well you transfer students don’t know yet”. It’s little bit cruel to rave about the arts dept, congratulate everyone and then tell us that…

But if I’m not mistaken, the dean did say that it was “Very, very good news” if we were there at the Open House. And again, looking at past threads (obsessively lol) no one that got the invite got rejected later. So I think we are in a pretty good place. I’m looking at the UCLA transfer thread and people have so many theories about indicators of admission…but I think the Arts Open House letter is the best indicator we can get.

Let’s hope decisions come out tomorrow!

Fingers crossed for us both! After the whole tour experience it would be really cruel not to get in now, especially for people that flew in to the open house and had to make arrangements. I am lucky I only live in OC and only have to brave the freeway. But decisions are out at 5 pm tomorrow. Tomorrow will be a pretty anxious day to say the least. Hell, this whole week I have been a nervous wreck!

I am design media art transfer tooooo. I got the invitation but i had class. Couldnt make it. How was it! We are in!

@agzaroarz The Open House was fine, I had already toured the campus so I skipped the tour and the lunch (had to go back to work). The dean of the school gave a talk, congratulated all of us, and then we went off with our groups to check out our specific departments. I wouldn’t say we are “in” just yet haha, that small chance that we might not get past the UC’s “filter” kinda terrifies me to be honest. But we’ll find out in 3 hours!

I got in!! 2015 design media art

I got in too!!! Congrats @agzaroarz

Congrats guys!! I got in too! @agzaroarz we will both be DMA transfers!! So exited to be in the program and working with everyone!!

Are you going to bruin day on may 9th? Maybe we can meet!!

Got in! I went to the open house, I wonder if I saw any of you, ahah. I wonder if there was any reason some people got the open house invite, and some did not–I’m currently OOS for school, but a CA resident. (Did anyone get a scholarship invite for UCLA Arts? Or something?)

Hi @melonpanman I might have seen you in the DMA group. It was pretty small. My group tour leader was a fill in and I don’t remember her name. I was a blonde girl with a boyfriend in a leather jacket if that rings any bells haha. I got a scholarship to cover way more than I expected because I am considered an independent but I am wondering about all those boxes I marked off when I completed the UC application for scholarships? I have not been invited for the UCLA arts scholarship. Not sure what would qualify me for that, or if I am exempt because I am a transfer, grades, etc.

@australopith I think I saw you twice, once during the tour and once in the office when I was talking to the guy in the front desk! If you are who I think you were, wow both of you truly stood out stylewise.

I’m happy for you, sadly I’m still a “dependent” in the eyes of California so I get a grand total of $0, so far anyway. Those boxes never seem to do anything for me, lol either that or I was going to the wrong school (Cal).
