For Philosophy at UCLA
Tap certified : Yes
Igetc completed: Yes
Gpa : 3.72
Major gpa : N/A
Major pre-reqs : 0/4 (3/4 this spring, 4/4 if wait list goes through)

This is for my alternate major at UCLA. Does the "tap priority" help alternate majors? Or just primary major, while alternates are viewed as normal applicants?

Would taking all the pre-reqs during spring put me at a disadvantage compared to those who took it earlier? Or does it not matter as long as I finish it by spring? I feel like not having a major gpa would be viewed badly.

TAP certification, your high GPA for the major, and the nonimpacted status of your major significantly increase the chances that you’ll be admitted, but not having any pre-reqs completed by Fall looks pretty bad. At least you’ll complete most, if not all of them by Spring. I think the “TAP advantage” applies for your primary and secondary major.

TAP is inherently strong because you get that alternate major. That plus people who enter TAP are honors students which often correlates with a high GPA. I wouldn’t think it helps more for the primary or secondary per say.

If not Philosophy, what’s you first choice? I think your GPA is high enough for Philosophy but they aren’t going to see any grades for the subject so I’m not sure how they’d view this situation.

Thanks for the replies guys! I guess I’m in a worst situation than I thought I was. I thought they wouldn’t mind as long as the pre-reqs were finished by spring.

I’d say 0% chance into Philosophy. TAP isn’t a guarantee, it only gives you priority. You don’t have any of the prereqs completed so that doesn’t give you much other than the 3.72 GPA.

If this is your alternate, what is the one you applied for?
