UCLA-Chem vs UCB-Chem L&S

I've got accepted from both:

-UCLA - Chemistry Department &
- UCB - Chemistry- Letter of Science Department (Not Coillege of Chemistry)

I want to major in chemisry. Does anyone know which colleges is better?

I would go with UCLA. Berkeley’s L&S only offers a B.A. in Chemistry. Unless you can transfer to the College of Chemistry, I think it’d better to get a B.S. from UCLA.

I wouldn’t be so sure about a BS being better than a BA. That might be true for a lower ranking school. I would check out the "What can I do with my major? " at the cal career center . They have a bunch of statistics on job placement, the grad schools that people were admitted to and average salaries.

I got into UCLA’s dept of Chemistry (B.S.). From what I’ve read, and the research that I’ve done, UCLA’s bs in chem is > than UCB’s ba in chem. Berkeley’s bs in chem is good, though. Nationally, the schools of chem at berkeley and ucla are ranked about the same. The ba at berk is something else, though.

You could always look at US News and World Reports, where Berkeley’s grad program is ranked #1 in Chemistry.

[Rankings - Chemistry - Graduate Schools - Education - US News and World Report](http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-chemistry-schools/rankings)

Or, as a chemist, you could always just check out the periodic table. Elements like “Berkelium,” “Californium,” “Lawrencium,” etc, are all named after Cal and its labs. Can UCLA boast the same?

BA/BS doesn’t matter, nor does the fact that you are in L&S. You have access to the exact same courses.

Still, UCLA’s program is strong enough that - if you think you would be happier there - you should go there instead.
