UCLA Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion

Wow I’m so excited, really hope everyone here gets in.
One question: I am out of state and I have some questions on the oos gpa. On the application it didn’t ask for -'s or +'s, so therefore I had all A’s. Does that mean that for ucla I have a perfect report card?

@bostonliving9696 Yes, yes it does. Lucky duck.

@McKilla99 thanks so much!!! I’m applying to bus. econ

Ahh why do the UC’s take sooo long?? LIke Texas, Michigan, GT, etc. Are starting to come out or come out soon, and I sitting here until March for UCLA :stuck_out_tongue:

Applied to UCLA (Engineering)
Out of State applicant
89.81 GPA on a 0-100 scale
2260 SAT w/ writing (700, 780, 780)
34 ACT w/ writing(35 E 34 M 33 R 33 S)
Involved in several STEM clubs
AP Scores: 5 (World History), 4 (US History)
Over 100 community service hours

What would you say my chances are (from 0 to 100 percent) of being accepted?

@PrimeTime16 UC’s use their own way of calculating gpa, so you’ll have to calculate it

Hey I’m a current UCLA student and used CC some last year so I thought I could be helpful to some of you. I’m a first year currently. If you guys have questions about admissions or what it’s like to go to UCLA feel free to ask me! Also I know you guys are probably all nervous and freaked out but don’t worry! I know a lot of people at UCLA who thought there was no way they were getting in but they did. Almost everyone I’ve met said they were shocked they got in. Also remember admissions is more than stats. There are plenty of people who got in with SAT’S lower than 2100, myself included.

Is unweighted GPA the most important factor?

I think unweighted GPA and rigor of classes is most important. UCLA loves to see students taking difficult courses and doing well in them, but that’s just my opinion.

Considering that 52% of all applicants with SAT scores in the range 2100-2400 get accepted, I’m quietly confident of my chances. It’s foolhardy to take things at face value, but still, I’m cautiously optimistic. For anyone who wants to see the statistics, here’s the link - http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_fr/Frosh_Prof14.htm

@McKilla99 I think a lot of that has to do with a very high percentage of applicants who have 2300+ on the SAT getting accepted. I think If you have an SAT score of 2100-2200 then the admit rate is probably something like 35%. I don’t know what your SAT is though maybe it is 2300+.

Anyways I think I have an outside chance at getting into UCLA.

UW GPA:3.82
UC GPA (Capped):4.18
UC GPA (Uncapped):4.36
SAT:2080 (650 CR, 740 Math, 690 Writing)
Major:Economics
I thought my essays were pretty good.
I’ve taken about as hard schedule that one can take at my school. (9 AP classes when my school offers 14 total)

@RHSclassof16 2320 actually, although my ‘modest’ involvement in ECs will likely play to my disadvantage

If anyone has time, just wondering my chances…

I come from a very prestigious high school in MA that sends many kids to top notch schools.
We don’t rank but I would say I’m top 20 in class of 300+.

Major : economics (college of letters and sciences I think) but don’t think that matters in admissions
UC unweighted gpa: 4.0 (all A’s)
UC weighted with only AP : 4.25 , not sure if I did this right.

My course schedule is very hard for my school but they only offer AP to junior and seniors. I think this will be understood by UCLA. I took a lot of honors (8) but idk if they are counted in the UC system.
Act: 32 (E:31 M:29 R:35 S:31)
Extra curriculars:
Varsity football
Varsity lacrosse
Varsity track
State street intern- this was first on my apps, was on of three students to represent my school, and was a huge position (senior summer)
Pantry chef (10-11th)
Worked with aunt in landscaping (9th-11th)
School required community service so I have done over 100 hours combined with 3 places
Peer advisory council
National honors society tutoring
Babson entrepreneurial program

We have 14 kids applying to ucla, I’m 2nd in gpa and act ( asked my counselor) but could be different with UC gpa system

Showed demonstrate interest

Please let me know what you guys think

UCLA is by far my first choice

Also on a side note, what are chances of scholarship or financial aid for an out of state kid?

Sorry also

Senior year course load: AP stats, environmental science, us history, and Chinese
Regular English and religion course (Catholic private school)

Took 2 aps junior year : euro (4) calc ab (3)

Asian male

@bostonliving9696 your gpa is fine for an oos but you act is definitely on the lower side for us and expect little to no financial aid for oos

Also very confident in essays , very proud of them especially the first prompt which I wrote on being adopted and growing up in pretty rich white suburban town

@bostonliving9696 adding to what what @crossovercuber said, for OOS, UC’s don’t count honors for an extra grade point, only AP’s count. but I’m sure your GPA is still pretty high.

@crossovercuber thank you for your response! Yes 32 isn’t great but it seems like that’s above average for applicants. Idk, I hope it’s good enough.

@chubii yes that’s what I thought, hope they still see the rigor. Thanks for your response.

how many kids from your school got in last year and how many went?
