UCLA Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion

@calraterboi At my school last year, 39 kids applied to UCLA and only 5 got in – 3 of them enrolled there (according to Naviance). I guess last year must have just been a bad year because in past years a much higher percentage of kids from my school got in – close to around 25%. Fingers crossed that this year’s a good one!

138 applied, 32 admitted, 10 enrolled for my school, also according to Naviance.
I live ~40 minutes to LA if no traffic

how do you find out your UC GPA (I’m out-of-state)? I applied to UCLA because I got a fee waiver.

@QuadiNorth only your AP/IB courses count for an extra point, your honors courses do not

also, check your A-G courses:

Does anyone know when UCLA decsions came out last year (like exact date)? Was it around mid March or was it legit the 31?

@chantal225 Last year they were released March 20 around 9 pm. Usually when it gets near the end of March the admissions office will tweet the exact date out.

Time is flying by so fast! Before we know it’ll be March and time for decisions to be released! X_X

I don’t think I have a chance getting into UCLA at all.
Unweighted GPA:3.5
Weighted GPA: 4.3
UC GPA: 3.8-4.1 (Somewhere around that. I don’t think I calculated it right)
State:Florida
ACT: 26 (I suck at taking test)
Major:Undeclared (Letters and Science)
AP: AP Spanish Lang (4), AP English Lang (3), I’m currently taking AP Calculus AB and AP Microeconomics
I did some extra curricular activities, but it is not that great it’s mostly music. Although I did play for Rick Scott (Florida Governor)
I have some decent community work
Essays: Somewhat good. (Wrote about the I had cancer)

I don’t think my stats are that great, but I stilled apply hoping for a miracle.

@StingTheory17 I’m from Florida and am applying to UCLA too. Good luck to you

This girl at my school claims she got into UCLA already. She must be lying, right, since decisions haven’t even started to come out yet, and won’t for another couple of months?

@poetbynature yep. decisions come out March 20 @5pm (Friday)

UCLA will send Regents scholarship invitations probably by the end of this month. Those receiving the invitations will know decisions earlier. I don’t think Regents letters were sent out yet.

@poetbynature That does sound a bit suspicious, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say she must be lying. She may be a recruited athlete; I know of a student at my school that has already been accepted to one UC with an athletic scholarship, and had similar offers from other UC’s. I’m guessing that there might be other ways (besides Regents) a person could be accepted to a UCLA early as well.

Two people at my school signed with UCLA back in November ish… one for golf, one for football

I applied as Undeclared - Humanities because UCLA didn’t offer communications as a freshman option. One of my essays is strongly pointed towards how I plan to major in communications, so hopefully that might show UCLA I have direction, but overall did I screw myself over by applying as undeclared?

Unweighted GPA: 4.0
Weighted GPA: 4.329
UC GPA: 4.15 (don’t remember exactly, but it was between 4.1-4.2)
State: California
SAT: 2120
Major: Undeclared - Humanities
AP: European History (5), Statistics (4), US History (4), Environmental Science (4), Microeconomics (–), Government and Politics (–)
I have a few good extracurriculars but none that have been ongoing since early on in high school - just a few I’ve been doing since junior year
Essays: Strong

@GingerTea12 March 20 is a Sunday this year, not a Friday, so do they come out March 18 or 20?

@shaneli1020 No, applying undeclared won’t affect your chances, don’t worry too much about it. If you’re still worried you can always change it until January 31st through the portal. But don’t let it get to you, tons of people apply undeclared and tons of people get accepted undeclared. Major isn’t too big of a deal during the application process.

So basically I’m refusing to allow myself that I have any chance at getting into UCLA… I go to what’s universally recognized as the best STEM school in the country and top three school in the nation, so keep that in mind with my GPA…
