@Ploince @bogeyorpar someone confirmed that they did get the email even though they already started the application, so if you didn’t get the email it would seem as though you/we are not in the top 20% at all
@18college1111 Haha thanks! And don’t get sad or anything. So many people get accepted without getting the email! What major did you apply for?
and someone said the alumni invite is NOT holistic and purely based on stats … seems it’s turning into holistic after all … can’t resist the dark side.
@amigadelauni , don’t worry, UW will welcome you with open arms.

@ugradbiz computer science. It’s just frustrating because I have only been accepted to Ohio State (rejected from stanford, deferred by GTech, didn’t get Cal early admit, didn’t get USC early admit), which was my safety, and I don’t mean to seem ungrateful because I know that there are lots of people who dream of going to OSU but I was really hoping to go somewhere else and I worked really hard throughout all of high school yet it doesn’t seem to be paying off yet.
haha its definitely holistic. I didnt get it and my UC GPA is 4.3 and my unweighted is 4.6 and my ACT is 35 so I dont think it is stats
@18college1111 Oh sweet. Ohio State is a very good school and it wouldn’t be the end of the world if you ended up there, but I am sure you will get in other places! Everyone ends up where they are meant to. I am looking to study business and it seems like we applied to some of the same schools. I actually got Cal early but I didn’t get USC either. I feel - the wait is excruciating but we are just weeks from getting the majority of RD decisions!
I got the email. (I’m not sure what my UC GPA is)
UW GPA: 4.0
W GPA: 4.84
SAT: 1490 (700 English, 790 Math)
SAT Subject: 780 Math Level 2, 680 Physics
What I want to know is will it look bad if I don’t end up doing the alumni application if I got the email? My heart might not be that much with UCLA but I don’t want to decrease my chance of possibly getting accepted.
@18college1111 Everyone ends up where they’re bound to go, I sincerely believe that. You’ve really also got to remember that college admissions is just a vicious cycle and even working hard doesnt guarantee you’ll get into the top colleges because we just don’t have a guaranteed formula for what they’re looking for. Also remember that this isn’t the end: just because you didn’t get early admits and you got deferrals does not mean you won’t get in for sure. There’s still a chance. And just saying, Ohio State is still an excellent school that would give stupendous opportunities nearly anywhere, especially for students of your caliber that they want to see succeeed at the school.
I got the alumni email… OOS applicant
W GPA: 4.89
SAT: 1560 (didn’t send)
ACT: 36
SAT subject: 760 Math level I
I’m also a legacy so that may have helped me get the email, not sure if they take that into account or not though
Got the email!!!
UC GPA: 4.18 (Capped) 4.47 (Uncapped) 3.81 (Unweighted)
ACT: 33 (M32, E32, R33, S36, W10)
Extracurriculars: ECs were my main focus in high school and dominated my application. Leadership in all ECs, state-level position for community service club, and 3 years of student government.
Awards: QuestBridge NCM Finalist, Valedictorian/High Honors at school
Major: Pre-Global Studies
Did anyone who got the supplemental questionnaire get the email?
Got the email!
UC GPA: 4.36
UW: 3.97
ACT Superscore: 32
Composite: 30
I’m a legacy (3rd generation) and I have a bunch of ECs and leadership roles. Pretty sure the selection process is holistic because my ACT score is not at the top of the applicant pool.
Super excited to get this email because I’ve mainly been getting rejections or deferrals recently. Does anyone know whether I can reuse or alter my Personal Insight Questions for the essay portion of the application? Thanks.
Another 35 ACT (with several subscores of 36), 800 SAT Subject tests, 3.8 UW, 4.3 WGPA - no email. It’s not based on stats.
@18college1111 hang in there. My DS1 and DS2 are in a similar boat, Accepted to ASU Barrett (safety), DS2 deferred Harvard, both did not get early USC. They heard from UC Irvine today(Safety part2), but still waiting on the rest. Have faith. There will be a great school that you will be accepted to. In the end, the school on the diploma isn’t that critical, its what you do with the education that will yield results in the long term.
@mclmom - DS1 and DS2 have similar stats. Actually just found it in Spam. LOL
Didn’t get the email and am really worried. I got into UC Berkley and invited for Regents interview. Also got Regents at UCSB, but nothing from UCI or UCLA. UCLA is my number one school
I’m under the impression that Berkeley probably based their early admits more on stats whereas UCLA is approaching it in a more holistic way.
@collegefind1234 Haha we meet again! I got the email from UCLA but I didn’t receive anything from UCSB or UCI. I wouldn’t worry too much. Not everyone who gets the email ends up being accepted and plenty of people who didn’t get the email get accepted. Congrats on UCSB! Maybe we will end up at Cal??
