UCLA Class of 2022 - Applicant Thread

Are acceptances based on your preferred major, or are they open to offering some students a major other than one they chose?

The portal says late March though. But it could change. Let’s see what happens.

@cbdmom Depends if you applied to L&S or a professional school like engineering, nursing, arts and architecture, or tft. If you applied to L&S you are trying to get into the college and not a major. As in when you get in for “Econ” or poli sci it’s actually just pre ____. You aren’t in the major until you finish pre reqs with a min gpa so you can switch majors every 10 in if you like. If you applied to a professional school they admit directly to the major and have their own admission committees and processes. Hope this clears things up. So for L&S there is no easier major. It’s a big falacy among UC schools

Thank you! That’s very helpful. So if one applies to a particular life sciences major, you are competing for acceptance with all the L&S applicants, correct?

@cbdmom You are correct. You have the same chance as the kid applying to English or anthropology.

So I guess we can assume decisions will be out this Friday? UCSD might be releasing this friday too so I’m not sure if LA and SD would release on the same day?

@collegedreamer167 Stranger things have happened, that’s for sure.

So I applied to UCLA as a Biology Major in the College of Letters and Science but now I want to apply for engineering. I’ve been accepted to engineering for UC Davis and UCSB, but is it too late to switch to engineering for UCLA? If not how would I go about trying to change majors?

@NoeG1027 I think you’d have to change majors after you’ve been accepted, and start attending.

@NoeG1027 UCSB decisions came out already??

@ucla9biggestab The top 15% of students (those invited to the Chancellor’s Reception) were given admission to UCSB.

@NoeG1027: Here is the information about changing majors. Just remember there are no guarantees that you will be able to switch into Engineering.

@NoeG1027 The link @Gumbymom posted should cover everything. Just keep in mind that achieving a min GPA required to transfer is very hard as the average engineering gpa is below a 3.0.

@ucla9biggestab Yes, at the Chancellor’s Reception today they told us we were admitted.

Thank you @Gumbymom and @10s4life, it’s something I will definitely have to consider beforing deciding on the college I will attend…

Anyone know some of the lowest SAT scores UCLA has accepted?

@collegedreamer167 Not exactly the same, but I know someone that recently received Regents at Cal with an 1190. I said that to say that anything’s possible in the admissions process.

@stevensonjj0 Now that’s fascinating. Did they start their own business? Win a Pulizter? Save a drowning child?

@collegedoozy Lol none of the above. But he’s very convincing and demonstrates good leadership skills. It just goes to show how holistic the admissions process is and how one school may see something special in you that another one doesn’t. Fun fact: I got CHP at Irvine and he didn’t receive any early notifications. All just depends on the AOs looking over the apps, I guess.

@stevensonjj0 wow! I guess colleges really do consider your essays/extracurriculars. I always thought Berkeley cared more about essay/extra curriculars than UCLA. I thought UCLA had more of a heavy focus on scores but some disagree. Does anyone know which school values which more?

@stevensonjj0 Holistic indeed. If I were being cynical, I might even say arbitrary and very reliant on chance. Congratulations to him, and to you! I’m waiting on decisions from the rest of the UCs, and I’m off to a rocky start, being waitlisted by Davis. It was a target school of mine, and my stats were at or above those of their averages. So, it’s a nailbiter this year. Maybe someone will see something special in me and take me in next.
