Veronica02: When did you attend the UCSB Chancellor’s Reception? Was it this year?
Hope decisions are this Friday, I’m stressing about finding out if I got in. When I talked to admissions, they said they look at out of state applicants differently than in state, so I hope that benefits me.
Do admissions come out BEFORE 5 or right at 5pm? My understanding was right at 5pm.
Dang…I had some of these low stats and didn’t get requested for any supplemental. Probs won’t get in
@teachmama2 it usually comes out a few minutes after 5 p.m but the portal might crash which will delay the results. Hopefully it won’t! Fingers crossed!
Many great comments. Thanks to all who contributed. My view, from my international son’s experience is that with the common app, the number of schools to which students apply is skyrocketing leading to a tremendous increase in apps to selective schools. Combined with budget pressures and political reality, this leads to top level public schools such as UC system, UVA, UNC, Ga Tech., etc. having to balance in-state with out of state admits. So international kids have to have more safety schools in the mix. So, that does lead to many, especially private schools having to manage their yield which leads to a process where they may defer kids that are easily qualified and wait until the student expresses more interest. So yes, it does seem to be more unpredictable to the extent that your safety schools will defer your app and your left on the edge of your seat hoping you get in your top choices.
I’ve been feeling very anxious about UCLA because it is one of my top choices but I do not want to get my hopes up! What do you guys think my chances are? I applied Undeclared intending a major in Humanities. In February I also received a request for a Supplemental Application for UCLA, which I filled out and sent in. I was confused as to what that meant in terms of my chances of admission. Here are some of my personal stats:
SAT: 1330
English/Reading: 670
Math: 660
GPA: 4.3
Rank: 1/188
AP World History: 4
AP Psychology: 4
APUSH: 4
AP Lang: 3
Listed some extracurriculars, but I wasn’t very involved in high school due to living arrangements and dealing with a dying parent, all of which I explained in my application. I know my test scores are a reach for this school but I’m hoping my GPA and life story will maybe make up for it? I was accepted into Davis a few days ago. Good luck to you all!
@moodswiing Honestly I feel like everyone who got asked for supplementals has such a high chance of getting in (as long as they were well written obviously) because it indicates they already had some sort of interest in you and were just in the middle. Lucky you
With so many applications, they must go through an initial screening process. I would suppose that a request for supplemental information is really good news. Good luck to you!
For those of you applying for the alumni scholarship, when will the interview invitations come out?
@asij2018 Yeah, I heard that those that receive the supplemental questionnaire had their app reviewed quite a few times to get to the position to receive the questionnaire. I’m also hoping that I got it for “Evidence of character traits that imply a strong likelihood of making a significant contribution to campus life“, cause otherwise I have got nothing lol.
@collegedreamer167 I think my essays were reasonably solid. And same, I heard it’s a good sign (for the most part). And I hope it’s an even better sign that I didn’t get it for a particular disability or hinderance, suggesting that maybe I got it for a particular trait or characteristic that they’re gravitating towards.
I didn’t get a request for supplements and I’m international… rip
Will engineering students get a request for supplements as well?
@davy901 @StressedSeniorInt Getting a Supplemental isn’t inherently a good thing. It’s good if you feel like you wanted to let them know more about yourself. But they may have also come to an easy acceptance when they read your applications and didn’t feel the need to send you a supplement
And I would imagine that any prospective freshman could receive it, though you would have to ask someone with more experience.
@davy901 from what I understand (I’m not an expert just from things i have seen) they often ask for supplementals of people they are on the fence about, so if you are a sure no OR a sure Yes they won’t ask for a supplemental
Yes I mean results sorry. I was so excited I couldn’t even type lol
@collegedreamer167 Thanks! Yeah…hope it doesn’t crash when there are going to be ~120,000 people logging in [-O<
@StressedSeniorInt If you didn’t get a supplemental request by now you won’t be getting one at all. Lol decisions are already done and will be released soon.
For those asking-Admissions from UCSB stated chancellor invites were for top 15%, the kids were told they were admitted, and it was this past weekend
