UCLA Class of 2022 - Applicant Thread

My son just submitted the Alum Scholarship application yesterday. Anyone knows when we’ll get notification for next steps?

@SCMHAALUM Those happen after admission to Ucla

@10s4life Thank you!

So we are almost positive UCLA is coming out this Friday? It’s weird because UCSD doesnt seem like it will come out until next week or the last week of March (calling campaign just started for SD)

@collegedreamer167 It’s looking like it. The UCs do not coordinate when they release as they are independent from each other. There is no particular order they need to release

whats my chance: 1210 SAT, 4.5 Unweighted, Great essay and Great ecs

@lilnando I wouldn’t rule you out due to how holistic everything is. Did you receive a supplemental questionnaire?

so if my stats are relatively good, and (hopefully) i filled out my personal insight questions well, but i didn’t receive a supplemental questionnaire, does that mean my chances of getting in aren’t good?

@vsayroo There are alot of theories on why some recieved a S.Q while others didn’t. One theory is that it’s random (not necessarily a good theory, but it’s out there). Second, you may have listed a talent/trait/hardship that they want to know more about before making a decision. Third, you may be borderlines (in addition to trait/talent/hardship), and anything you put can tip the scale. Fourth, yes, it may be bad (OR GOOD) depending on your stats. If they didn’t send you one and you know you have HORRIBLE stats, then worse case scenario, they already put your app in the rejected pile. OR if your stats are REALLY GOOD (plus essays), then you’re probably accepted. IMO

@vsayroo My stats are average and I did listed a speaking disorder I have and I was requested to fill it out.

It all depends on WHO read your essays and if they want to know more.

Just tried logging on to portal right now and it said it could not find a record matching what I put in. Was working fine a couple days ago but not anymore. What’s happening?

@orionary do you think being an out of state applicant has any affect on the process?

@orionary There is no theory to it. Here is why you may receive a supplemental questionnaire:

  1. You are a borderline applicant and the readers feel they do not have enough information to give you an accurate review.
  2. You listed a hardship or disability that may have an affect on them making a decision. You receive this normally if your hardship or disability has caused you to have a drop in grades, lack of ec participation, or lower test scores.
  3. You have a special talent or situation that they feel needs more explanation if your baseline application has not enough information to admit.

To summarize it means you haven’t been rejected but you aren’t an automatic admit and the committee needs more information. Most borderline applicants have decisions made with only their app. Supplements are only sent to some applicants

@10s4life do you know when the engineering emails come out?

@confused6789 Not sure

@10s4life since the engineering email didn’t come out yet, do you think that means the decisions may come out next friday and the engineering emails will come out this friday?

Hey why is everyone so sure that UCLA decisions come out this Friday if it explicitly says on their portal that they are expected to be released in late March?

On the admission decision notification portion of the website it says Decisions for most freshman applicants will be released mid-March.

I think there is enough evidence (discussed previously) to suggest that this Friday is a possibility for decisions. Even if it was just a hunch, why wouldn’t I check anyway?
