i hope there’s another wave in the afternoon
@anxietyyomgg I think I read this somewhere but out of all the applicants in California UCLA takes the most from the SoCal school districts and they take the second most student from school districts in NorCal. NorCal and SoCal schools are both extremely competitive and everybody from my school who got in all had 3.9+ GPAs and a lot of awards/extracurriculars.
Have not seen any CS or Samueli news here - IS or OOS - they are probably holding releases off waitlist until after SIRs are in thru the deadline. Just my guess.
When is the SIR deadline?
Depends on which school @legit1234 but UCLA and I think all other UCs are due at 11:59 PM
so was today in states a wave? Compared to oos, this isnt even considered close to how many oos got in but im not sure
@25Raider to be fair…l&s has wayyy more uncapped majors than Samueli. Samueli is all the competitive engineering majors which are, I think, all capped. There’s a higher risk of over-enrollment so they probably need more concrete data based on SIRs.
@chanimalnam No, I am pretty sure it isn’t a wave. Rather it’s more like rolling where they’re probably going to be sending out sets of decisions throughout the entire day, giving people enough time to submit their SIR before the 11:59 deadline if they want to once accepted off the waitlist. This is definitely less than the OOS wave but I think we can expect more people to come from IS
@jjwang oh i see, thanks for the info. i’ve heard that a lot of international kids apply for engineering, so hopefully this means that spots open up for us.
I don’t know the difference between rolling and waves, can someone plz educate me? lol
@anxietyyomgg Rest assured I believe engineering may even be easier to get off the waitlist in some aspects. As someone who’s currently committed to Cal, I can say that I know a lot of people who turned down UCLA engineering for Berkeley EECS, even though UCLA was their dream school originally. For L&S, I also know people who have turned down UCLA to go to Berkeley’s HAAS business school and USC Marshall. So for engineering and business L&S majors, perhaps more spots will be available.
@waitlistking2020 Rolling means that throughout the day, they will be admitting people off the waitlist and there isn’t a specific time. Waves are when they admit a bunch of people all at once at the same time. Hope that helps.
Thanks @damedolla1234 !
I got in today for Political Science and I’m IS!! Got the email this morning
Is it just me that didn’t get an e-mail even when regular decisions came out?
@waitlistking2020 yeah i didn’t get an email when reg decisions came out. I only got an email for a “change in your application” for that one school I got into. I didn’t get emails for rejects and waitlists.
cal state long beach!
Anyone get in OOS or IS for biology?
Agreed - that’s why I said it’s likely that E/CS wave off the waitlist may not be after May 1 at which time they will have a better idea of the yield and how many to take off the waitlist. If I recall the yield for E/CS is considerably lower than L&S for UCLA - i.e. E/CS majors apply to a lot of schools and there’s a higher chance of them going elsewhere - like Stanford UCB or Cal Tech. Add to the fact that a lot of E/CS are international - so a wave may be coming for E/CS.
@jjwang congrats on committing to cal! i also have a couple friends who turned down ucla cs for other universities. hopefully admissions is just waiting for solid numbers after may 1 to release engineering waitlist stuff.
