UCLA Class of 2024 Waitlist Discussion

Congrats!

Not sure about email. We checked portal because of chatter here around 9am and saw the update. Good luck to everyone! This is the year of the waitlist!

IS, ACT 34, UC GPA around 4.2

Hereā€™s what really helped my LOCI I think
I told them I could financially afford UCLA without assistance
I got straight As first semester
I told them about a few major awards I won, as well as continuation of my service projects
I told them about my experiences on campuses (Parents are both alum, and dad worked on campus)
I submitted a youtube link of a video of me doing some silly things. I honestly donā€™t know if this helped, but it definitely made me seem more human I think. Best of luck to you all, this thread has helped me cope with a lot over the past month.

EDIT: I got in. Forgot to mention that!

thank you! I appreciate it. I hope you get accepted too

Ah dang it TT all of yall in state people that got accepted got straight Aā€™s your first semester huh ā€¦ Congrats on your acceptances guys! Tomorrowā€™s my birthday and Iā€™m hoping to wake up to some good news TT

My friend got accepted today, IS, for geography major. I still havenā€™t received an email (:

@heyurcool can you post your stats if you dont mind/quote
Iā€™m an in-state Latina female accepted to L&S as a pre-psych major.
So my stats are pretty low compared to most people on here.
1290 SAT / never took an ACT
4.56 GPA weighted (not sure about UC capped)
unweighted GPA was a 3.69 (yikes ik)
I got 5 Aā€™s and 1 B first semester senior year.
11 APs throughout high school, mostly honors classes
2 varsity sports, team captain senior year for both
I had a good amount of ECs and had leadership positions
I spent a lot of time on my essays, and my waitlist essay was around 1,000 words (not sure how many characters but I used up a lot). In the waitlist essay I talked about new projects Iā€™ve been involved in since the start of my senior year, why I thought ucla is the perfect match for me, and what I can contribute to the school.
My stats werenā€™t the best, but I think my writing is what got me in.

So, maybe it was a wave after allā€¦ dang.

Does anyone know about IS Samueli

ucla needs to release that samueli ā€¦ they really out here playing us like this.

When would they next release admissions?

My anxiety goes up everyday waiting for the decision. I got a 1290 on the SAT, and Iā€™m an OOS Asian female. Iā€™m really worried if I wonā€™t get accepted. I wish they released all the decisions at once rather than in waves until mid-June.

do senior grades/stats in general really matter for waitlist decisions? im starting to think they have other methods of deciding who gets off the waitlist since a lot of people who have gotten in stated that their stats werenā€™t that good

will there be a second wave for instates?

^personally I think that depends on your demographic and how much your strength in grades was demonstrated in your original application. as an Asian female from NorCal (UCLA already has a lot of my demographic in their freshman class) and someone whose EC involvement was weak in comparison to grades on my original application, I think my 1 B in first semester senior year may be my downfall ? Even then Iā€™m still hopeful and have been patrolling this thread religiously itā€™s kind of sad hahaā€¦

I am an instate asian male, waitlisted for Computer Science and have not heard anything yet.
Has anyone heard for instate computer science or any Samueli engineering?
Any idea when they would release Waitlist for instate computer science or any Samueli engineering.

You got a B, not an F. Itā€™s not going to be your downfall. I think itā€™s more of your interest in the school through your LOCI (if you sent one) as well as any additional information regarding recent accomplishments.

My friendā€™s stats werenā€™t the best but his dad went to that school, he is financially well off too.

@jjwang Bay Area represent!!! ?? On the other hand, itā€™s important to realize that the SIR deadline hasnā€™t passed yet. Each geographic region may have fewer numbers of people who SIRed up to now. We wait until the very last. Donā€™t lose hope because this is just the beginning. Once the official deadline has passed and numbers are final other geographic regions might open up to pulling from the waitlist. Weā€™re in this together.

@jjwang how do you know that UCLA already has a lot of NorCal students? was it released somewhere? also yeah ik, ive been checking this thread like crazy bc iā€™m waiting for cs waitlist decisions to come out
