I did include the part about “…deeply into its admission…” I am interpreting this in the context of a belief which has been put forth by some in this thread that IS will have a much better chance getting in over prior years; “much better” is a subjective term but one that many believe is significantly above the 13% for 2019 waitlist acceptance. I don’t think IS has a rate as high as some people hope. The entire statements says, “…offer spots to more Californians and students from elsewhere in the United States (AKA OOS)…” The “visa problems” will create more spots for IS and OOS. However, it seems that OOS will benefit more from the openings because, “…deposits from California students actually are somewhat higher than normal this year.”; UCLA has enough IS to make up the demographic of their freshman class. OOS will be drawn upon to make the diversity more inline with what UCLA wants. Yes, INTL and OOS are not the same but the extra $$$ is more similar than IS. UCLA can easily fill the 22% OOS/INTL quota by pulling from the OOS waitlist. Yes. More IS may be pulled, but not to the extent people are hoping. SIR submitted to UCSB today. Moving on, but always nice for Christmas to come in the middle of the summer!
@waitlistking2020 we are from the SoCal region, more specifically, Palmdale (:
@jjwang They do admit the most qualified but they’ll also have other factors in mind… i.e. : geographic residence to maintain diversity, ethnicity, etc. Just factors to fill in the gaps, at least that’s what I thought it was about.
@CaliBoy2024 I’m out here trying to be optimistic but you are really stressing me out as an in-state lol
For those accepted (this is towards OOS), how long did it take for you to receive your mail package of admission?
Hmmm, I see, thanks @hjsskz ! I’m trying to piece it all together. My theory is that they’re admitting from places that have significantly lower yields. Of course, people wait until the very last day as we’ve also seen in this thread so once these numbers are officially out, there’s gonna be more IS waves. Also, side note, CA may have higher yield numbers as a whole, but the attending class of 2024 will also increase by 500 people compared to previous years where enrolled class was 5900. We’ll also have to see how many Int./OOS students choose to not go which can create a trend in which Admissions just decides to admit more IS. We’ve also seen this on more than one occasion WITHIN this forum where an OOS was admitted from the waitlist but ultimately chose to go somewhere within their respective state because of the enormous cost to attend UCLA for an online education. Personally, I wouldn’t mind because even though I’m ~500 miles away, once this is over I’m still interested in the opportunities there are at UCLA.
Does anybody know how many people committed to UCLA this year?
@user_730755 According to the official facebook group, there are about 5229 students committed right now. I think this is an accurate estimate since there are those committed who don’t have a Facebook, while there are also parents and non-committers who have stayed in the Facebook group to counterbalance that.
What about students who haven’t gotten in yet, but are still on the group?
Yeah but that is a really good estimate anyways are because not all the committed students are in the group and then there are some other people and parents who are in the group. I think with the recent waitlist acceptances 5200 is logical and pretty accurate estimate.
If UCLA is expecting 6300+ this year and they have about 5200 people right now…that’s a LOT of waitlist spots for basically everyone and for appeals too
Is there anyway to find the actual number after today? Or do they release those numbers much later?
Lemme rephrase- will I be able to find the real number within a week or will it take a couple of months
NO, unfortunately they will not release these information until they are done with their class of 2024 which is going to be when they accept the last person from the waitlist.
Damn
@makabd8123 I was admitted during the first OOS wave on tues 4/28 and I still haven’t gotten mine yet but I’m guessing with everything going on it might take longer than usual
wow thats a little depressing. i wish we all actually had an idea of what our chances were… the next few weeks are about to be hella long
I wish they’d give us an exact date to when they’ll release waitlist decisions
I hope they’ll release things after this weekend
@acceptedwaitliststudents hi friends, im kinda curious as to when you guys submitted your waitlist application!! im feeling guilty now because i submitted my waitlist application like april 13/14 LOOL does submitting the app earlier allow you to get off the waitlist earlier?
When is the next intl student wave gonna be?
