So I am just going to assume that there’s going to be no more decisions released today
I am confident that they won’t release anything on weekends. Tuesday we might see the next wave! (I am just predicting 2 so who knows)
"UCLA’s vice provost for enrollment management, Youlanda Copeland-Morgan, said that deposits from California students actually are somewhat higher than normal this year, but that some international students — who this year comprised 11% of UCLA’s 31,500 undergraduates — are not likely to return to UCLA or UC’s other eight undergraduate campuses because of visa problems related to the crisis.
UCLA is likely to dip more deeply into its admissions waiting list and offer spots to more Californians and students from elsewhere in the United States, she said. “This is a very difficult and unprecedented year in terms of our ability to predict what’s going to happen,” she said. UCLA admitted only about 13% of its 109,000 freshmen applicants so far this year, she said. Traditionally, a very high percentage of those admitted wind up attending — 43% last year."
This statement makes more sense now with the big OOS/INTL wave and small IS wave. Since “…deposits from California students actually are somewhat higher than normal this year…” UCLA can be much more selective in the IS people off the waitlist to fill non-academic criteria for the freshman class and fewer IS spaces are needed to fill. OOS/INTL waitlist are not so selective and will pull deeper because they want these students to fill the 22% (or so) allocation already set for freshman class.
That might be true to some degree but past years show that all the waves are “smaller” for in state students. In fact, they have more small waves for in state students in comparison to OOS and INT so do not be shocked about what happened today.
yes he did!
will there be more OOS waves?
@CaliBoy2024 “UCLA is likely to dip more deeply into its admissions waiting list and offer spots to more Californians and students from elsewhere in the United States, she said.”
I don’t think IS students are screwed - she even said that international students would be replaced by Californians and students from elsewhere alike.
@Caliboy2024 you forgot to include this part of the article where it states:
“UCLA is likely to dip more deeply into its admissions waiting list and offer spots to more Californians and students from elsewhere in the United States, she said.”
I also agree with what @Shdjdgd said. UCLA may just be taking precautions with smaller waves so as not to overenroll. IS students are more likely to accept their offers too because UCLA is one of the two top public schools in California and at 12K tuition it’s a great deal.
does anyone know if/when ucla will release this year’s stats for how many people sir’d?
Did most of you guys SIR for now to UC’s or CSU’s?
UCSD
I SIR to UCSD to make sure I have a safe spot to fall back on in case…i get drop off the waitlist for UCLA lol
I was going to SIR to UCSD but I decided not to last minute lol
Another friend of mine got off the waitlist, her major is biology and in state.
This morning right?
yes in the morning
YAY, at least we know bio’s getting admitted! What part of CA are you guys from @hjsskz , I wanna see if geographic region takes part in seeing who gets off waitlist…
For me, I’ll put it out right now, I’m from East Bay Area
Does major really matter when admitted to L&S? I thought they just admitted whoever was most qualified to enter the college? Worried because I applied as Pre-International Studies but I wrote my LOCI on my interest in UCLA because of their pre-dental undergraduate opportunities. Should I regret having done that
