UCLA Communication Studies

I will be applying to UCLA as I am extremely interested in their Communication Studies major. However, when I was asked to select my intended major on the UC application, it said that the Communication Studies major is "closed", and hence I am unable to select it.

Can anyone tell me what this means? Does this mean that Communication Studies is not open to freshmen entering UCLA in 2011? Or is there another way for me to major in Communication Studies, eg. enter as undecided for the first year, and then decide that Communication Studies be my major in second year?

Any replies will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Communication Studies is a tough major to get into at UCLA because they limit the number of students in the major. It’s “closed” because you have to enter as something else, take some classes, and then apply for the major once you’ve been a student for a year or so.

I’m a Computer Science major, so how do I know this? I made the mistake of taking Comm 10 as a GE. I’ve never memorized so much for one class.
